9x12cm "Normalfalz" Plate Holders

Here is my collection of 9x12cm "Normalfalz" Plate Holders.
I use these in my three Plaubel Makiflex cameras (see my avatar).

All of these holders have film sheaths inside them.
I have acquired alot of 9x12cm film over the past several years.

Top left: twelve Voigtlander holders.
Top right: ten holders from the Ukraine.
Lower Left: four RADA "Normalfalz" holders.
Lower right: unmarked 9x12 "Normalfalz" holder.

All of these holders fit in a Plaubel Makiflex 9x12cm film back.

The Cameo 9x12 cm plate camera






The plate holder is 10 cm wide and a total of 17.7 long to the top of the pull out slide in the middle.
Inside the plate holder, in-between the overlap lips is 13.6 cm long and 9 wide.
A piece of glass could be 14.5 cm long but should be shorter, say about a little less than 14 cm
There is a 2mm (.2cm) lip at the bottom of the plate holder
Two tabs stick up 4mm
The glass is clear and the shutter fires. The camera is labeled Cameo. The lens is THE ALDUS UNO F7.7 ANASTIGMAT
It does not have a ground glass attachment.

The Cameo supposedly has the same type of "falz" as my Agfa Isolar, the so-called "Normaldoppelfalz", but to be sure I'd need to see the sides of the inserts.
Here is my Agfa Isolar 408, restored her myself.

There's some new (old stock) 9x12 plate holders for the Butcher Cameo cameras on Ebay at the moment, actually the packets say 8x12 but that size never existed.

Do you mean you're missing a focus screen back ?

I have quite a few film pack holders of various sizes including 9x12 and have made focus backs from them in the past so owners can focus their cameras on a GG screen. I'm not sure what I have without looking and they are not immediately accessible.

If I had another plate holder I could cut a window in the back of it and throw a black cloth over us and use that.
Now that I look again at the ebay post it looks like there may be a rear attachment for the glass. It may also be the front of the camera closed. I do not want to buy another funky old camera that may or may not fit the one I have. I may buy a plate holder or two if they had the same dimensions.

Ebay is being blocked and I cannot stay on a page long enough to see just what is being sold. The screen goes gray.

Let me know what the plate holders are like, I have 100's of them, they are stored sorted by size and edge type It's easier to use old film mpacks for focus screens because you cam make a shade that folds back into it as well.

Join the rest of us, 9x12's are a bit of a mine-field as the backs aren't standard. You need to be very specific.

Well, nothing I've seen on eBay is specific enough to purchase, except that other Cameo 7.7 and it also lacks a glass. Measurements have been posted here for this Cameo in case someone has one like it or has a similar sized holder they do not know what is for.
I have a Primo 8 outfit lacking nothing that is close in size to use instead. It has 3 plate holders with film holder inserts so it can do 6 shots per outing, with ground glass focusing instead of one shot without it.

I just bought 3 holders on ebay from Moldova of all places that are shown with a cm ruler. The width is 10cm and that is what I need. They may be 1cm too short but so what? I intend to cut it open to expose the back of the glass which will be frosted for my needs. The other 2 may or may not be usable.
Progress not perfection.

The prices are way over the top for almost all the items being sold. We have a couple of UK sellers like that and buyers are paying 2-3 times more than they'd pay from a reputable dealers who'd include a guarantee.

Film inserts are usually quite cheap $10-$15 for 3, cheaper if you buy quite a few.

I'm posting dimensions again in the hopes someone has a plate holder or two in the size I need. The plate holder has a rectangular bump that sticks out in the back of the camera. It is 10cm wide or 3 7/8 inches wide by 16cm long or just over 6 1/4 inches long. That is plus draw slide handle and a 1/8 inch or 3cm lip on the bottom. There are pictures in the plate camera forum on page 9 showing the groove in the side. (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

That rang a bell and I had a look in a drawer. I found a few AP Paris holders, which though actually being real 9x12 are pencil labelled (in the dim and distant past, by some snapper) 3 1/2" x 4 3/4". This makes me wonder if yours are actually sized for the U.S. market and likely some plate-sized derivative. I know that many European 9x12 cameras were sold in the UK and US as being inch sizes and were supplied with holders for the local film sizes.

3 1/2 x 5 3/8 inch glass would fit but I'd have to cut some to be sure.
Do you think your holders would cover the length? 4 3/4 would be too short.
I've been looking on ebay and you are right that American sellers all list sizes in inches not cm. However they do not give enough measurements to know what size they actually are. Showing rulers really helps.

I stopped collecting the various '20s and '30s 9x12 film/plate holders when I had enough to match the ones I had. In the process I got lumbered with a few oddball sizes chucked in as part of lots. Yours are longer by a cm and wider by 5mm than any of mine, leading me to suspect a local variant.
The 5x4 standardisation post-war was the best thing to happen, removing all this hassle and uncertainty. Except for 9x12, which soldiered on, but at least it was contained in outwardly-appearing 5x4 holders and could be used in Linhofs and Graflexes, etc.

I'll try and uncover the boxes of metal dark-slides later today or tomorrow, as you need much longer than the typical ones I should be able to find if I have any thing vaguely suitable quite quickly, they are sorted by edge type & size.

There's definitely some longer Houghton's holders amongst them.
