It's been so loooong since I lived there, I couldn't possible give advice. I was in first grade at Monte Vista school there! All I can say is: I loved the city, the food, the nearby mountains, the balloon festival, the little side trips in the state.
When I lived there, it was across the...
Here you go, a 6x6 back for an rz...

One other thought would be to to adapt a hassie or bronnie back....
Last time I checked (1 year ago), there was a square back still available for the rz; but as far as I know, there hasn't been one for the rb for a long time. They are both exceedingly rare now. And backs like that will cost you more than it's worth. Why not just make yourself a viewfinder...
Mentioned it back in post #11 ;)
That's not true for the Mamiya 6 and 7 with the 50mm lens. The auxiliary VF is required for the 43mm lens only. And the 50mm lens is "equivalent" to ~25mm, in 35mm terms...
I use the 50mm all the time, it is super sweet and easy to compose with.
Well, if we're talking 645 then the new mamiya 28mm f/4.5 asph. lens may be the very best offering out there. It has a ~100 degree field of view. And it is not a fisheye.
P.S. I see Hasselblad also has a 28mm, but it for digital only on the H3D, and it apparently does not have asph. correction.
The 43mm for Mamiya 7....
An article on David Hume Kennerly on Mamiya's website
...and...
Hume Kennerly's book. All images were taken with the Mamiya 7ii and the 43.
I shoot a 50 on a Mamiya 6; I like the squares. I sometimes wish the lens were a wee bit wider and for that reason I have...
Yes, but as far as I know there never was a pos/neg colour film.
I still use 665 and 55... very happily, but miserly... ;)
Quite some time ago I wrote to polaroid asserting that instant b&w positive images aren't going to be as popular, in the future, as instant b&w negatives. The remaining...
Another thing the I.P. really should consider, in my opinion: instant film without the positive image.
So you'd just get a negative and that's it. This would set aside the whole dye transfer business, perhaps push the cost down, while still delivering an enlargeable neg that you can inspect...
Actually, that wasn't my point. I am imagining a scene with finely detailed highlights and shadows and simply suggesting that unless you meter those carefully (i.e. not with a typically low resolution TTL in-camera meter) then the boundary won't have the snappy white/black transition. A more...
I am sure that we all eagerly anticipate the informative discussions you will start on the subject of photography and apologize for taxing you with these obvious technicalities.
Should you be generous enough to post some of your photography, I am sure that you will find that we have ample...
It is unlikely that the contrast is significantly different through the two lenses. What is different is the level of tonal detail and how you meter with the two different systems.
Short answer: it used to. Designing a lens to provide extra space for a mirror used to be a real issue.
Longer answer....
The first thing to understand is that no lens is perfect. There are quite a few "corrections" that need to be made to a basic lens design in order to get optimal sharpness...
Ok. We are making progress understanding each other ;)
I'm still not agreeing with that. But the key to resolving our little dispute is that it may make little sense to think of the lens and the film independently. Maybe we should speak only of system resolution, to keep things simple...
No, that is precisely the perspective from which I am approaching this. I mention pure white and pure black tones just to simplify the argument.
The curve is moot. We were talking about what lenses do, not what film or paper does. Anyway... it's a technical point, but, I still do not think...
That statement confuses me.
I imagine a subject brightness range, and that range gets passed through a lens, and the resulting range (before any film or recording medium is involved) need not necessarily have the same brightness range.
Let us take the case of a non-neutral lens. How...
Hmm, well, my latest project is to figure out how to think in terms of projects. So far not very good. I am way too scatterbrained for project-oriented thinking. I have made some progress but not as much as I'd hoped....
Sim2, even if the 35mm and the MF lens have the same contrast, the MF kit will win in terms of tonality.
When I say tonality, I mean transitions between tones, and that includes the transitions into deep shadows or into bright highlights. The more info you capture, the more smooth and subtle...
Aspect ratio is the thing.... how it affects the composition.
I don't think anybody in this thread was particularly concerned about the most economical fit to paper, so let us just set that aside and move on to more interesting things. If economy is the issue, one should simply shoot...
I also just use water for the presoak. You will notice that the water will take on quite a lot of colour from the AH dye.
I am not at all familiar with this film, however.
Actually, you don't need heroic stirring, nor higher temps (which may accelerate oxidation), nor alcohol.
Here is a tip from Haist's Monobath Manual pg. 51 (recipe for MM-1), which uses hydroquinone. Haist says to add a pinch of the HQ (i.e. not all that may be called for in your recipe, just...
