Hi all!

I know that this is an odd request, but if anyone wants to try some pretty off-the-wall film basically for free, this is your chance!

I recently got a very large roll of Kodak 2465 Microfilm, and was wondering if anyone would be willing to test some of it in various developers to see how it behaves. Unfortunately I don’t have many developers here, and also not much time unfortunately. I do plan to sell this film later on, though I won’t be charging much for it since it’s ridiculously cheap. Basically just my time and postage.

It is an extra contrasty blue-green sensitive stock. I’ve gotten good, if contrasty. results at around EI 12-25 in HC-110 B, and I plan to try it in HC-110 H and Rodinol 1:50 as well to see if I can get the contrast down a bit. It didn’t work very well in H&W control though, which was surprising.

If anyone within the US wants to try this film, I’ll send you a couple of rolls of 120 or a few sheets of 4x5, for free (although $5-10 for postage would be nice), in exchange for sharing your results with me so I can start to compile a development time chart.

If anyone is interested, definitely let me know and I’ll write your name down and send you film when I have the time to make some.

Thanks!

You may wish to mention whether people outside the USA are eligible.

I'd be interested, in whichever format is more convenient. I assume this film can be handled under red safelight?

Fixed

Yes, that is correct, it’s ortho film. As far as format, I can do either, just let me know what you prefer.

Photographers Formulary sells a version of Kodak Tech Pan developer, it is a low contrast developer and can be used with microfilm which was similar to Tech pan

I’m aware, I don’t have any myself but that might be an interesting idea to try.

I'd be interested, microfilm has been a massive fascination recently and I've found one or two recipes for caffenol that can help tame it.

id be interested. i have used alan's cd4-lc developer successfully with many technical films like hr-50, tech pan, copex rapid and cms-20 with great results.

Count me in. I can do from 35mm to 8x10.

Thanks! I just got some Tech Pan from a forum member, and was going to try HC-110, but I think I'll give TD-3 a try.

I can do replenished XTOL in 35mm and 120 films.

Thank you for all of the replies, I do see them, unfortunately right now I’m just very busy so don’t have a lot of time to reply. Hopefully this weekend I’ll get back to the folks that want to try this film.

I replied to the folks that PM’d me, I probably won’t be able to send out any film until Thanksgiving break in a couple of weeks. Lots of school stuff and other things going on. But, again, if you let me know you’re interested, I can write your name down and see about cutting some of this film for some folks.

A roll of 2465 popped up in my eBay recommendations this week and I bought it so I'll try and contribute my experiences with it. Gonna try and cut up some 4x5 sheets tonight

Okay so rodinal does not agree with this film. brought out a lot of base fog even at 1:100.

I exposed a shot at ~iso 25 and developed in hc110 in dilution E for about 6 minutes (was developing in a tray by eye) and got pretty acceptable results. The emulsion does have some weird speckles throughout but there's minimal base fog with hc110. I'm guessing shooting at iso 12 and maybe developing with an even more dilute ratio will probably improve things.

As someone with an excessive amount of this film, that's a good looking shot there. I'm gonna have fun with this stuff.

For those that were interested in this film, I have not forgotten, I’ve just been super busy with school stuff. This week is finals week, next week I am completely free, so I plan on cutting a whole bunch of this film up so I can send some of it to you guys.

My tests with TD-3 and both Fuji and Kodak microfilms was completely unsuccessful.

Have you tried 1:200 plus 1:200 (mixed) Rodinal and HC-110, stand or semi-stand developed? I've been having some luck with Rodinal Special/Studional/Bellini Hydrofen at 1:70 for 12-18 minutes with some of the document/sound/special films lately. Still having trouble getting both shadows and highlights in contrasty light situations, though.

My tests with TD-3 and both Fuji and Kodak microfilms was completely unsuccessful.

I use TD3 extensively. I use it with high contrast films such as Tech Pan and CM20 and I also use it with ordinary film, such as FP4, HP5 etc. I get very good results. If I can be of help, I'd be pleased to do so. Feel free to send me a personal message.
Regards,
Ian Rivlin

I tried developing a roll of this today with very poor results. I shot a roll of 120, 3 scenes each shot at EI of 6, 12, 25 and 50.

I developed this in TDLC-103, which is composed of:

1g Metol
5g Sodium Sulfite
10g Sodium Bicarbonate
Water to make 1000ml

I developed this roll for 10min at 68f, 30 sec initial agitation, 3 inversions every 2 minutes thereafter. (10 minutes is the recommended starting time for document, copy and microfilms)

First off, it turned my fixer yellow, which hopefully is some kind of dye and not this fairly fresh batch of rapid fixer sulfuring out because of this film. Neither the developer or water stop were tinted yellow.

Basically no development occurred, and I've used this developer formula on Kodak Plus-X Aerographic 2402 before, so I know it should work to some extent in this time range for a normal film.

Film base still has a yellow tint and strange patches of fogging. Banding that occurs every 7 inches or so and starts with a sharp line of high density that then fades to low density before repeating. Also spherical areas of low density along one edge.

Only the first image that was exposed at EI 6 was visible on the negative, albeit very faintly. None of the other images exposed at the same EI or otherwise are visible.

Next time I'll try something like T-Max Dev or D-23.

with a light-yello filtwr theEI will most likely drop to EI6, but the high blue sensitivity and exaggerated contrast will be better controlled. I do this with Harman's direct-positivepapr with great success;willing to try in 120 in Rodinal or D76.
