Have a feeling that there will be lots of postings here when the paper hit stores and perhaps Mirko will let everybody know when it ships?

Mirko. I looked at the Questions and Answers sheet on the 2nd Oct which mentioned that MCP would be available in about 4 weeks or early November. What's the latest news on its availability here in the U.K. and who will stock it?

Thanks

Samples

Dear all,

thanks for the input.
Here are some answers:

-The second test batch comes from another roll out of the same coating run.
So there is no need to test it next to the first batch

- While all Europeans should receive their samples at the latest by this week, the north americans have to remain patient for a few more days/weeks. Freestyle is helping again to distribute these samples in the US and the shippment is still in transit from over here to Freestyle.

- MCP: an additional batch of original Agfa coated MCP (glossy), of which no one knew it was still there, hit the market in early September. This quantity is still in the markets. If anyone needs any MCP ask us. We have stock and we can get additional sizes. As long as these old stocks are fluctuating around it makes economically zero sense to coat additional material because we would not be able to sell it in short time and thus all the investment money would be tied up in it for many months.
So we decided to postpone the coating of MCP to February or early March depending on how sales are going with the leftover stocks.
The second reason why we made this decision is that we will get matt base in this timeframe too. So we can make glossy and matt in the first coating.

- We will inform all MCC field study participants of whom we have working email addresses when the paper is ready to be in the stores. This information will also be listed on our distributors websites by then. Next to this all news are posted on the ADOX website, in several German internet forums and, ofcourse, here on APUG.

Best regards,

Mirko

Mirko, while you didn't answer my question a few weeks ago about the date for the availability of MCP, your latest news gives me the answer that MCP produced by Agfa has been found and is available. I have checked the ADOX site and it directs me to the U.K. FOTOIMPEX site in the UK and tells me that this has been combined with Retrophotographic. I have looked there and there is no mention of AGFA MCP paper.

If I wanted MCP paper can I expect it to be stocked by Retrophotographic in the next few weeks or will I have to contact them so they can order it from Germany?

What would be the price in £s for a 100 sheet box of the equivalent of 8 x 10 inches? A mail order company called Keyphoto in the U.K. has kept stocks of most sizes of MCP for a number of months now but it is expensive. You might want to check their prices. I'd like to know the price I would pay for your stock.

I can only assume that Keyphoto has also found a stock of old Agfa MCP but sooner or later it will run out and as your company has taken the trouble to continue producing MCP, I'd rather support your efforts but I will be honest and say that price is important.

Thanks

There's a full page interview with Mirko about the Adox branded (Agfa formula) MCC new paper in last months (November) french magazine Réponses PHOTO.

A very interesting article, but all the basic information has already been been posted here by Mirko who we have to thank for keeping us well informed.

My First Test

 Yesterday, I tried Adox MCC111 and my last batch of Agfa MC111.
The first difference I noticed was the support of Adox paper, whiter than old Agfa., but on my first test is only this the difference.
The paper responds well, I used Amidol developer Michael Smith formula, developed for 3 minutes. Tone are good, bight white and deep black, the mid-tone are smooth.
I toned it on Kodak Rapid Selenium 1:20 , one for 3 minutes, no changement of colour, only a slightly d-max improve, the other one for 5 minutes, with a slightly changement of colour(purple) and a better improve of d-max.
The speed of the paper is the same of old Agfa MC111, I use for both the same times, and the result are very similar, the new adox, for me, seems brighter, maybe the whiter support base helps.
I have to do more test, but at the moment I’m very happy of new Adox MC111, and I prefer this new white support than the old cream Agfa.
A very good replacement….. THANKS ADOX :smile::smile::cool:

Well, I have already tried to compare new MCC to old one. The only difference I found is the whiter base on the new one, what make the new paper more universal. Yesterday, I tried the last sheet as a new paper, without comparing it to anything else. The only important thing was the result. Well, what a result: I tried it on jazz photo concert... with lots of dark blacks. And on this point, I can say that this paper has no concurrent! Probably the most dark black of all the papers... very beautiful. A large grey scale, with lots of midtones. The only thing a little bit disturbing is the fragility of the emulsion: scratches have appeared during fixing and I will have to mask it with "gris film". Will it be improved on the "official" paper?

MCC Rolls, MCP

Bob,

yes when the paper is coated we will also cut long rolls.
The only limitation is that we cannot go beyond 1,08 meters in width.
Confectionig different formats is a relatively small challenge compared to recreating the papers formulations and coating it.

For sure our aim is to fulfill every customers need as good as we can.

MCP

Pentaxuser,

currently we have only 24x30 cm MCP 311 white box left in stock.

We hope to be able to ship by the middle of January out of this last batch of original Agfa paper. It will be labeled without the ADOX name so you can differ it from our new resurrected paper coming in march. A full assortement will be cut down now from 10x15 cm to 50x60 cm.

Once it becomes available it will be on the top of our website and I will also announce it here on APUG. Retro will be stocking certain sizes, other sizes they can always get for you.

The prices for this paper will be OK. We want to turn products rather than making them a sacret treasure.

Obviously the new production has to be cost effective so the price level of this will be a bit higher than for the old stocks.

Thanks Mirko. Based on what you have said it seems that Keyphoto must have got a large amount of old Agfa MCP as they still advertise it in most sizes.

My problem is that I don't know what " a bit higher than for old stocks" means in pounds sterling (GBP). If the new MCP came to the UK at higher than the prices currently charged by Keyphoto then I will be honest and say I would buy very little of it as it would be much more expensive than Ilford and while Agfa MCP produces possibly a better print for some subjects, it would not be enough to justify the extra price.

I will wait until March to see what the prices are at either the UK stockists or what the prices in euros will be in GBP

TESTED New MCC 111

Mirko,
I got a test packet from Freestyle yesterday and just finished testing it. I didn't think it possible but you improved a great paper. The midtone separation and contrast is amazing and the image tone is perfect, slightly warm neutral. and the whiter base is a major plus. This is possibly the best B&W photo paper being made at the moment.

I'm pretty new to this site - although, as you may have noticed, I can't seem to keep my mouth, (fingers?) shut!

I've just found this thread and read it through. I loved Agfa paper and this seems pretty awesome to me. So what's the Brand name in the U.S and where can I order a box?

Thanks chaps, (and chapesses!)

Bob, look back in this thread for info on Mirko and Fotoimpex. They are organizing this, and the paper is currently only being tested. It appears that the paper should be available for purchase later this year under the name Adox MCC 111.
I tried it out and it reacts almost identically to the old glossy Agfa, but the base is not creamy white, it's neutral. Lovely paper.

Thanks Thomas. I'd tried the follow the whole thread - you know how it goes - and got the impression that it would be available by now. Tried around and couldn't find it then began to question what the brand name would be. Thanks for the response.

Just used up the last of my test paper. I haven't worked with the old Agfa MCC 111 before so my comparisons are based on experience with: Azo, Kentmere Bromide, Kentmere Kentona, Ilford MGIV fb g, and Ilfrod MGIV rc g.

My initial thoughts are:
The paper is a nice double weight with the classic fiber feel (unlike the somewhat plasticy feel of MGIV).

It has a bright base and gives a neutral to SLIGHTLY warm tone in Sprint QSPD (a neutral tone pyrazolidone-hydroquinone based developer).

The shadows seem to develop slightly faster than the highlights in QSPD (QSPD develops MGIV all at once). This makes me think the paper might work well with Amidol and a water bath, I'll try that assuming it becomes available.

The paper seems capable of great local and overall contrast... mid tones have a nice separation.

Blacks intensified slightly in KRST 1:50 for 3 minutes at 70degrees. Minimal to no color shift(which is right up my alley).

Looks like a wonderful paper, I hope it reaches the market. Thanks Adox.

You can view my first image scan (there was a url link here which no longer exists). (It didn't scan well so not sure what you can gain from looking... I'll post the other two tomorrow if I can get them scanned.)

I tried out a couple of sheets of the sample paper last night and honestly can't tell much difference in it and Agfa MCC 111. I am thrilled at the prospect of being able to get this paper on a continuing basis.

Any news yet on when this is going to be readily available?
It really is my 'go to' paper.
Which means I've spent the last few months finding excuses to use my special use papers.
