Ok, so it IS and ISN'T movie film...
Maybe they should call it Schrodinger 400D.

I much prefer my 250D short ends. No, I can’t get it in 65mm to make 120, but I have more than enough Aviphot to make me happy. Sure, my lab can’t process it, but for $1.50 per roll? I’ll deal with it.

I just finished post processing a roll of CineStill 400 D. I metered the first half of the roll at EI 250 and the second half at 400; it did not seem to make a lot of difference. After C-41 processing by Citizens Photo, I used a camera to scan the negatives, and then converted them to positive using Negative Lab Pro. The colors were brighter than I was expecting, and I was not always able to get colors I like, but maybe that's just me.

Anyone got their 4x5 yet? I guess 4x5 is still "in the final stages of being pacakged". Or at least that's what they told me back in March. They must be packaging it sheet by sheet!

My God, absolutely beautiful color. It doesn't matter to me if it is just photoshop or not. I am fully committed to BW darkroom, but stuff like this makes me waver. I still have a 100ft of 50D. If I could make it look like your C41 results using Ecn2 chemicals, I might be convinced to stretch out a bit. This indecision has been plaguing for at least a couple of years, and I hate it.

Thank you. Funny, I was wishing I had made the effort to find someone to develop this roll in ECN2 chemistry instead of C41. ;-)
Guess I'll never know which chemistry I might prefer for CineStill 400 D unless I shoot 2 rolls in parallel and compare results from the two different chemistries. But I am not shooting much color these days, so I probably won't be running that test any time soon.

I received an email from Cinestill today saying that 400D in 4x5 has arrived and will be shipping out to the program backers in the next few weeks.

Yes, I am not too keen to pay that amount for what appears to be aerial film base thickness that won't work in a Jobo Expert Drum.

I suspect the base is similar in thickness to the Aerocolor we also get in 4x5" these days. I tried developing that in a Jobo 2509N reel and it went fine, although the flimsiness didn't instill much confidence.

Tray development is a possibility as well, btw.

Has anyone got reviews of the 400d in 4x5 to share yet? It's sold out everywhere at the moment, but color 4x5 with a cost per sheet that's lower than TMY is something I can get behind.

The base being thinner than some 135 films seems like an odd choice for sheet film, but I guess it makes sense in their production. Maybe because they're cutting down the same large rolls they use to make their other formats into 4x5.

Either way I'm excited about it. I was worried it would end up being delivered to the kickstarter backers and then never come to market. An affordable color film option for 4x5 is very welcome especially with Portra 400 now at $7.50 a sheet.

Yes, that’s it. This is literally just a master roll or normal 250D. They made it sound like they were going to use a thicker base, but it didn’t happen and people are a bit peeved.

I have shot some...It is a noticeably thinner base.
I have my local lab process it, with a notification that it is a thin base film with no remjet.
They have not had a problem processing it, the results are good.
I haven't had any scanned or printed yet.

That’s good to hear because I’m not in a position to process myself. But scanning is one of my main concerns. I’m a little worried that such a flimsy base will make it difficult to get the film acceptably flat without wet mounting which is a no go for me because I’m very sensitive to the vapors in the fluid and I can’t end up feeling like I have the flu every time I have to scan a few sheets
