I have fresh 4"x5" dry plates available for sale that I made as part of my latest batch. These are "extra" above and beyond what I need for my own purposes (helps offset the costs a bit). If you ever wanted to try dry plate photography, this is your chance.

There are three (3) 10-plate boxes available. $35 ea. box plus $7.25 shipping.

ISO 2, developing instructions on the box (I got creative with the label). You'll need a plate holder (they are too thick for film holders), but otherwise they work just fine with a 4x5 camera. If you do your part, the results should be comparable to the photos below. Keep in mind that these are hand-coated. I screen them for major flaws, but there may be minor flaws which add .. character .. to the final product.

That's great! I'll start preparing another batch. Save your deposit, only because the timeframe for making the next set depends on my schedule (I will plan on making plates over the next couple weeks, but cannot guarantee if I can hold to that. Depends on my day job).

I will set aside 5 sets and let you know when they are ready, and you can pay then.

Great idea, Jason -- best of luck with the small side business, should offset the costs nicely!

I'd consider it, but it would require a real step-wise improvement in my capacity to set up the poured plates, which is more effort than I care to go to. I'll enjoy watching your progress...

These are finished plates, so you don't have to set them up (unless I misunderstood what you're getting at). If you can develop FB prints, you can develop plates... I develop them in trays under a safelight. Easy peasy... you just have to be careful handling them because the emulsion is fragile when wet. Currently I use HC-110 Dil B, Arista Odorless indicator stop bath, rapid hardening fixer, rinse, hypo wash, and gentle agitation rinse. Then put them in a rack to dry. I have been using acid stop bath just to see if the emulsion will hold up to it (it does), but I should really switch back to water rinse for the stop just to be safe.

I wouldn't call it a business at this point so much as another excuse to hang out in a darkened room late at night depleting the stock in my beer fridge!

Yes, but I would need to calculate shipping.

Yes. I've made positive prints via a contact print, from both film and another plate.

I have been meaning to make some dry plates for me whole plate camera (6.5x8.5)
Would you consider making plates of this size?
Also how difficult is the process? Ideally I'd like to make them my self at some point. If you don't mind me asking, what process have been using?
I absolutely love the packaging, definitely looks the part, looks like an old box of 4x5 dry plates that was gifted to me.

Ha ha, sorry, I see that was ambiguous. I meant, "I would also considering selling the extra output of my plate production if it didn't require a step change in that particular stage of the process." I pour enough plates for my own use just fine already.

With regard to the other points, FWIW, I used acid stop bath with no difficulty at all until I switched to TF-4. OTOH, I have been finding TF-4 to take a bit longer to completely clear plates sometimes for no obvious reason I can detect. I always get there, but sometimes it takes twice as long as I'm used to with plain old Kodafix or Ilford Rapid. Don't have that experience with film or paper at all. May switch back to indicator stop and Kodafix for plates.

I also don't bother with hypo wash, one of the reasons I switched to TF-4. Of course, I haven't had too many plates that I've really wanted to preserve yet, and the oldest ones I've made are only about a year old. But they all look fine so far, and were washed relatively thoroughly.

But I don't want to derail your FS thread further, this was just info I hope will be helpful. I encourage everybody who is not set up to pour their own yet to try out Jason's plates, they're a lot of fun to work with.

I do have 5x7 plates since I shoot that format. I just don't have boxes to ship them out in lol. I have boxes incoming in the next few days tho.

There are 5x7 holders available. They'll be old, but they work fine. I have a Seneca No. 9 with 5x7 plate holders that work perfectly. That dated from the 20s I think and they were standardized with kodak 5x7 holders by then. Just pay attention to the stop rib location (that rib which keeps the plate from slipping back out).

Search for 5x7 plate holders on ebay...you'll see some there.
