Are Ferrania proceeding because of Seal's involvement, or despite it?

Let's wait and see.
Filmotec also experienced an initial revival (at least in terms of its online offering), and then the traditional Filmotec products disappeared.

That's not a good sign.
What's it a sign of? Some possibilities:
* Maintenance on the web shop
* Contract lapsed due to an administrative error
* Awkward migration path to a new web shop solution
* Ferrania has been taken over by aliens who have decided to use the company as a storefront for Illuminati apparel, which will be sold to subdue the masses and promote world domination by the Spaghetti Monster
etc.

In itself, this doesn't tell us much at all.

The name resolves to 104.247.81.52, which points to a data centre in Canada (Shopify is Canadian). It does not redirect to a domain broker's site for me. So have to agree with @koraks: still nothing to see here.

But... letting a company domain go dead, even for a few days, is never a *good* thing.

Up to now I had never considered the Spaghetti Monster to be like that. Just goes to show you can never be sure 😟

My two cents.

I, for one, welcome our new alien overlords.

Sometimes I think film photographers suffer from collective Industry Collapse PTSD after the original downfall, and so every little hint of failure triggers panic.

I have been following film photography for maybe 14 months and I think I've heard the sky is falling at least 6 times:

-- Sino Promise exits the market. Is this the end of Kodak chemistry?
-- Fuji no longer making film. Is this the end of film photograpahy?
-- Pentax 17 doesn't have feature X. Is Pentax giving up on film?
-- Kodak releases an annual report. Is Kodak dead?
-- Troubles at Film Ferrania. Is Ferrania dead?
-- Jake Seal is destroying Innoviscoat. The end is near.

PS: Actually, I think I also heard that Kodak was dead about a year ago, when they released their previous annual report.

It is a perennial topic. I guess some folks like indulging in the doom. Me, I don't get it.

Heads up P30 seems to be coming back to distributors. It is back in stock at several places, including Freestyle. B&H lists it as "temporarily out of stock, expected availability 7-14 days." Screenshots attached.

B&H had previously listed P30 as "discontinued," so this does represent a change. Freestyle's price has increased 16% from the $11.99 price to the 13.99 price with the return of availability. It has also updated its product photos to reflect a new packaging box in line with the P33 boxes Ferrania was selling in 2024. I believe this packaging was used in the last batch of P30, although I do not think it ever made it to North America - at least I never saw any. This is notable because the P30 sold in these boxes last year was said to have an increased ISO, making it more accurate to the ISO 80 advertised box speed and addressing the most commonly critiqued aspect of P30 (that it was significantly slower than advertised). Not having been able to get my hands on the film in this packaging I cannot confirm this.

The B&H page, although this has definitely been updated from the previous page, does not include an advertised price increase. That may change when it actually comes back in stock, of course. Other websites that have seen a return have increased prices from $11.99 to $12.99, instead of Freestyle's $2 jump. It also seems that some have not increased their prices at all.

No movement on P33 or Orto that I have seen (Orto availability was getting spotty but it was never fully unavailable during this past year of change at Ferrania).

The Ferrania website situation mentioned above is unchanged as of my writing this.

Is it DX-coded? I will probably buy a roll when it's available at B&H, and if it's DX-coded I will also get a second roll for my wife.

I don't wish to be negative about Ferrania, but they don't inspire confidence.

Look back at their efforts over the numerous years and it reads like a list of "How Not To Run A Business"

I have followed their progress and understand the difficulties they encountered and the unfair criticism for some people but they appear to operate in a very unprofessional way.

I wish them the best, I really want them to succeed but the list of mishaps keeps on growing.

Well, they have a new owner. Perhaps it's fair to no longer ding them for mistakes of their previous owner and let the start with a clean slate.

Oh pish posh. Just be thankful you can buy this mediocre nostalgia at an even higher price now.
