Ceiling fan

Well, the move is done and the room is up and running. Still needs some cleaning and re-arranging but I've produced work, both platnum and silver so "I'm finally after 5 months back in the silver business!" There is plenty of room for growth (Need an 8x10 enlarger) The room itself is 420 sq ft. Plus 200 sq ft production room (not shown) that is the entrance room. Because of the shutdown I have not had a chance to process so the room will get lots of use getting caught up. over 100 rolls of film and a couple boxes of 4x5 waiting to put the room through its paces. I am a very happy man! This room is a mixture of the very old and new.
You have a ceiling fan. I'd never thought to put one in a darkroom. Do you have much trouble with dust?

I've got one. The fan doesn't create dust. If the darkroom is clean, the fan will be fine. I do only run mine on low speed - it's just to keep air circulating. In my last (much smaller) darkroom, I had a small oscillating fan.

... Obviously the most sophisticated part is the ventilation. It is sucking the air right above the trays, an idea discussed some time ago in one of the threads in this forum. It's very quiet thanks to the silencer built into the duct and the ventilator running in a silencing box. It is changing the air in the room ten times an hour if it is running at full speed. So it should be sufficient for working with selenium toner and other hazardous chemicals showing up in the future. ...

cheers

Ulrich
Now that's what I'd call a "manly" air handling system.

Ah! I thought at first it must have been one of those avant garde spherical sheds... Compared to my space, I would need a map and compass to find my way around! Of course, my darkroom is not part of my work day.
Maybe it's a TARDIS, you know--bigger on the inside than the outside.

OK, I just remembered I had an older APUG account I haven't used. It has the same ID as my f295 and eBay accounts. So sgiesel directly above is me.

After years of bathroom labs, here is my future permanent garage lab (under construction).

MyLab-26-6-2011.jpg

Still not finished, to do : plumbing, electricity and "close the box".

Dimensions : 2.34x0.98m² (total) ; 0.94x0.53m² (for the man)

I forgot : expected capabilities : only BW, negs up to 6x9, enlargements up to 30x40.

Next project : use the whole garage for huge enlargements (enlarger horizontal, processing of vertical paper with sponges - I already did this years ago)

Paul (Is there a contest for the biggest and the smallest lab ?)

got a fancy mini fridge stand that works very well as an enlarger caddy.. still using a wet table.. quite comfortable now with all of the extra space in the half basement of this split level.

Wow. I went through some 70-odd pages of this thread and I'd like to thank all of you for sharing your experiences and know-how - it is a great help for those like me, who "stand on the threshold of their future darkrooms" and would like to make their darkroom (almost) the best room in their house .
I hope that in a couple of weeks I could chime in with some pictures of my new darkroom, which is now very desired - after long time of squinting in the bathroom and with the 4x5 enlarger lying sadly under some shelves...

And So It Begins.

I have finally got something that's shaped like a darkroom. Still some bits and pieces to add here and there. But she's finally got a head of steam.

For some reason your image isn't showing up, maybe it's my stupid iPad. Anyway congratulations on your new darkroom. Just moved and will start building my darkroom soon.

Instead of an image file, it should be a link:

My "antinumeric shelter" is finished and was first used on Aug. 11th 2011 (that is yesterday). Viewing the results, I decided I will no longer scan and inkjet-print B&W.

Actually a revival, I owned all the stuff you can see (enlarger, basins, etc.) long before I had a computer. My Krokus is aged 40. But I just modified it, as you may notice, so that it will move smoothier, by adding a weight (from an old clockwork) and a pulley (from my old "Meccano").

My darkroom so far...

Three Durst condenser enlargers make light work of switching between film formats. These are wired to an RH Designs' Analyser Pro and f-stop timer. The De Vere 504 (now with Ilford MG Head) is an unplanned recent addition.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would have done one or two things differently, but hey - not bad for a first attempt. :D

So this is my darkroom this summer so far. Started with Omega C700 on a small table timed with a Gralab 300, 2 milk crates and a plank of wood with a plastic garbage bag over it for my wet bench.

Upgraded to the Omega C760xl pictured in 3rd image, and added the Thomas Duplex in 1st image, and the 11x14 4 blade easel, as well as a gralab451 timer. Then upgraded to a 6ft pvc sink, which I now store paper in a large rubber made bin under. and finally I installed a LPL670dxl enlarger, which I cannibalized the baseboard from the omega c760xl, plus added a nice little sound system to the under the sink shelf with ipod dock and remote.

I was driven to build it after never having enough time after work, to print my own images, in the darkroom that I teach in. But was spoiled by all the equipment I use routinely, but now my setup at home trumps the one I work in lol.
