The point of this app is not to make spot meters obsolete; those are better of course. This app is good at visualizing zones/SBR at once without hassle and can be used as light meter too.

The app has been updated and now it features exposure locking which is a helpful feature I think!

Updates are coming to devices during today and tomorrow..

I just downloaded this app and it is fun to use. I have until now avoided photographic apps on my iPhone.

Any chance you will port this over to Android?

Think I'll stick with my Pentax spotmeter. It's been accurately telling me brightness range at a glance for over four decades. For example, even I am mathematically skilled enough to subtract 7 EV from 17 EV and get a SBR of 10. And funny thing, I don't need to touch a single button to get correct exposure combinations at the same time. Are we evolving the wrong direction?

Will use it as something to play with and stick with continuing to use my Pentax Digital Spot Meter.

Playing around with it is the thing. You can make gazillion spot measurements and just do measurements you wouldn't probably otherwise do. It opens eyes a bit, I personally feel so.

I've not done any large format photography that much after I created the app but I would definely rather use my app for measurements than my spotmeter. That is just my personal opinion, not any kind of "selling point". Spotmetering is slow and a bit difficult, probably because I'm not used to it. Hmm, maybe a good excuse to go out with 5x7" and work with zone system in full.

The results you get from the app are a bit different than what you get from spotmeter because of many measurements per second. It is like "painting" around and just getting a feel what the scene SBR looks like. I think the lock feature was a good addon - you can lock the exposure for some part of the scene and then move around and see if something gets over or under.

It is a different tool than spotmeter for sure. Does it replace spotmeter? Try it and tell me

New promo codes (old were expired) - if one doesn't work it is probably taken, so try another one. Instructions how to use: https://moodistory.com/how-to-redeem-a-promo-code-on-your-iphone/

Spotmetering, especially with the Pentax, is fast fast fast. You can't even punch buttons that fast. The only thing that slows me down a few more seconds is the need to pull out my pocket magnifying glass or put on reading glasses; but I have to do that even to use a cell phone, or type on a screen like I'm doing right now. But if you enjoy the challenge of running a hurdles event instead straight down the lane, that's your prerogative. ... whatever we find fun and rewarding has its benefits. Yet there is one thing in your approach I strongly agree with .... you're simply not accustomed to spot metering. No crime. Good luck on your own approach, and hopefully others will gravitate toward it too, rewarding your effort.

And while many "Zonie Zombies" do logically choose spot meters, these were engineered to be highly versatile, including for the motion film trade, which still uses them.

I too find using the spot meter quickly and easily and I agree that getting the spot meter out of the case does slow me down.
