The only Polaroid film that was sharp for medium format was type 55, and you needed to check the negative with a loupe. Polaroid was mostly good for checking lighting and getting client sign-off before committing to film.

I've mostly use type 100, but if you think that is not sharp, you'll be in for a surprise with Instax (it's similar to SX-70 film).

I don't think you can get a client sign off with Instax, it will not look like the final product.

I am referring to the days when a client or art director understood that a Polaroid was representative but not anywhere near the final image. Today, with tethering, clients need (and generally have) little or no imagination.

Both Polaroid and Instax films, indeed, all instant films, including the 35mm instant Polaroid roll film, take experience and forethought to be able to use effectively, more art than science, and many will fail to develop a feel (no pun) for it.

On one of my last packs of b&w Polaroid last fall, only40% of. parts of the film would develop, yet I was able to gain useful data for my film photography from it.

I advise you see what info you can use from any of these films you can gather, you might surprise yourself at what you will find useful.

I find the viewfinder image plus a digital camera shot to confirm lighting is more than sufficient.

Our methods and tools change as time passes and we accept much that is new, as analog itself evolves.

All is new again.

CFV16 Tethered 120 f5.6 C T Star Blk 500CM Broncolor Hazylight by Nokton48, on Flickr

FOBA Glass Sweep Table White Foamcore background Broncolor Hazylight 1600 F22.5 Broncolor Hazylight overhead. Hasselblad 500C/M Anniversary 120mm F5.6 Zeiss S-Planar with Zeiss +1 Proxar. Camera tethered to Macbook Pro Pre-2013 Firewire 400 Adapter. Hasselblad Phocus is integrating with the CFV16 and working well, long learning curve ahead. This is fun, not cheap but not stratospheric cost either. I like the images I get with this Olde Back, and repurposing my olde V equipment. Also the CCD back is slow, I like EI 50, works great for me as my film cameras take film about the same ISO, easy to work back and forth with my beeg strobes. BTW when this first back was introduced in Japan 2007, the cost estimated was $17,000.00 US. This one cost me $2800 because I REALLY wanted it, these are collectable and V owners buy these and keep them. It's rare to see one for sale IMO.

CFV16I and CFV16II by Nokton48, on Flickr

I've had this Hasselblad CFV16 Version 1, for a while and I'm really enjoying using it. From KEH along came a CFV16 Version II, very similar but with some upgrades. Since I have an Anniversary 500C/M with my CFV16 working good, tethered to Phocus too, I also figured it's a good idea to have a backup unit, these do not come up often IMO. Serial Number is 3DSR2120. Menu says Firmware Revision: 270. Files have a slight Magenta cast to them but camera is staring to wake up. Has a lot of small marks so it's been used, sensor is pristine. Anything I should do to bring this out of Coma? It's on my motorized EL/M, I got all the CFV16 accessories when I got the first back. I have a second CFV16 Acute Screen, so that saves me at least $600.I've had this Hasselblad CFV16 Version 1, for a while and I'm really enjoying using it.
