Correct, Ian the Russians gave the workers at the Zeiss factory in Jena 24 hours to pack and told them you will either come, or you can remain here dead, they also took all the plant and machinery with them but curiously didn't take the glass.

When you say "glass" do you mean blanks, or the Carl Zeiss' lens design? I suspect it is possible that when the Russians negotiated the Contax II and III, that may not have included the lens design.

Did they actually force the workers to come at gun point? I guess Jena was already part of occupied East Germany, so it was more like a lateral move (though it was still Germany at that point). This article says the factory was in Dresden: http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/zconrfKiev.htm

I wonder who the Russians negotiated with? The "East German Government" or the Allied Powers and surrendered West Geman Government?

I have the SWC [38mm], 50mm, 80mm, 10mm, 150mm, 250mm, 500mm. I do not shoot portraits and the 150mm is too close to the 250mm there the 150mm is my least used [almost not used].

I grabbed my first Hewes 35mm reel off of Ebay last week for under $20.
Now I understand why people like them so much!

I have the SWC [38mm], 50mm, 80mm, 10mm, 150mm, 250mm, 500mm. I do not shoot portraits and the 150mm is too close to the 250mm there the 150mm is my least used [almost not used].

I also have the 80mm CFE and the 50mm CFi.

The 38mm Biogon looks stunning, but the SWC seems like a hassle to use effectively (especially for precise framing). If I ever get a hankering to go that wide I'd probably opt for the 40mm FLE Distagon instead.

The 100mm also looks superb, but is very close to the 80mm and 120mm that I already have, albeit obviously with much less distortion than the former and better resolution than the latter at infinity.

Some more 35mm XP2 and Superia 400, I might try some Portra in the Rolleicord for landscapes. The 800 could be handy for available light portraits as well.

When I bought my SWC I also had a Hasselblad groundglass that fits in place of the A12 back. That could be used for precise framing. However, the SWC is so good I just keep using it despite having other Hassys. It's great for landscapes, interiors, architecture, all sorts of subjects. It really will produce absolute straight verticals at the very edge of the frame.

The 100mm CF is what I'm missing (I have 50 CF FLE, 80C, 120CF, 150CF, 250C). I would dump the 80 in favor of a 100 always - it's their best lens.

I have the same equipment for the SWC and have done the same thing.

At times the 100mm lens can be too long for the normal lens and I have to switch back to the 80mm lens. The 100mm lens is a joy to use as is the SWC.

A 180 mm on 6 x 6 is very nice-mine gets plenty of use for both landscapes and portraits ( I have a Mamiya C330).
