Just bought the above Weston Meter (Or Photronic Exposure Meter as it is written on the meter itself) for a fair price. Working wonderfully well for its age - 90 years!

The film speeds (Weston film speeds) seem to be very slow speeds, range from 1 through to 64. (1, 1.2, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 24, 32, 40, 50 & 64)!!

Now, I know that film speed ratings etc, changed over the years, more so in c1960/61 when film speed doubled.

Can anyone please tell me from the above film speeds, what the equivalent film speeds are today - eg does Speed 64 = 64 of today??

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks 👍

Weston speeds are 1/3 stop less than ISO speeds.

I have a Weston Cine Exposure Light Meter model 819 made around 1937. I think it's basically the same as your model 650, they just change a few things on the dial for cine exposure . I've had it over a decade, it never worked, so I put it on a shelf for display and kind of forgot about it. Recently I was looking at it and its working great. Sometimes after being stored in the dark for a long time they just need to see some light for a while to get going again. I still need to check it for accuracy.

Thank you, all ! Appreciate your help in this.

I think mine is slightly more out of sync than the one stop suggested, but will try and work it out somehow...

I belive i have this Weston, with its nice bakelite shell case and leather carrying case.

Mine worked the last time I looked at it, I had put it and others in direct sunlight, just for storage maintenence, but that was about three years back.

I like my Weston Meters and one day hope to repair the two IV Meters because of their dials, but it's very unlikely I'll ever use this as a edc.
