BTW what does Godspeed supposed to mean?
I only hear it in US movies when someone is going on a dangerous and perilous journey, is dropping off a parcel to the post office that bad?

Used to wish someone success or good fortune, as on a journey. Origin of Godspeed. From Middle English God spede (you) may God prosper (you) God god ; see god . spede third person sing. present subjunctive of speden to prosper ( from Old English spēdan ) ( from spēd success ; see speed . )

OK, I figured it used when Bruce Willis was about to hop in a space ship to blow up an asteroid hurtling to earth, never heard it used as a simple parting phrase before.
live long and prosper or Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, Good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

Hi Eli

If I had one I would give it to you and you could keep your $10. But, sadly I don't . Best of luck with your search !

One way to get a free Leica is to respond to ads giving stuff away for free. Whatever it is. Collect that stuff and sell it. Eventually all that free stuff will get you your free Leica.

As an example, I just gave away a brass fireplace surround/ember cover. They sell for about $75 used. Something like that would have been $75 in your Leica tip jar.

Huss, thank you for your suggestion, however, thought I do give and receive, on occasion to Freecycle, I only do so if I need whatever I receive for my own use, or if I want someone to have and use what they need.

I can no see myself changing that anytime soon.

Cheers, Be Safe, Be happy and Godspeed.

After he receives the $10 Leica, then we can all start sending him free film and processing it for him... God knows he can't run a roll of film through it, the film + processing will cost more than the camera.

That will not be enough. We will have to take to photographs for him too. :whistling:

Or, you could simply live and let live, as what I have asked should no be so threatening to you or anyone else, yet you both post replies as if
my ask has caused tremendious angist among you.

You can get quite a nice LTM camera made on stolen Leitz machinery for under $10, well I have anyway :D
There was no equipment "stolen" from Leitz. Morever the dismantling of other firms and even the deportation of workers was by mutual agreement of all three Allies and covered by the unconditional surrender.

I thought I was on to something, I found this site and typed "LEICA" in the search box but did not find any. So how about a watch, instead of the camera?

You are so right. The amount of mean-spirited “jokes” around here...

There was no equipment "stolen" from Leitz. Morever the dismantling of other firms and even the deportation of workers was by mutual agreement of all three Allies and covered by the unconditional surrender.

Legally (under whose law?) this is surely the case. German laws, patents, trademarks, etc. were dissolved, vacated, and invalidated, as appropriate, after the surrender.

And somehow, a surrender signed by whatever military officer the Allies could find who claimed to be in command justified not only enslaving formerly free workers, but destroying any ability to rebuild an economy -- punishing every German for the (seemingly) unpardonable sin of tolerating (or being born under) bad leadership. Never mind that for most of them, to object to abuses of power by their own government was tantamount to suicide.

Americans, pay attention. This could be your or your children's or grandchildren's future.

BTW, Eli, it's close. I just saw a camera that appeared to be a first model (no RF) Barnack Leica on eBay for just over $100 BIN plus shipping from Ukraine. Bottom loader, all markings said Leitz, lens was marked as Leitz Elmar 5.0 cm f/3.5. Seller called it a "copy" but as far as I could tell, it didn't say "Fed" or "Zorki" anywhere. Maybe one of the earliest ones off the line after the Leitz factory was reassembled in the Soviet Union? Somewhere between a 1938 Leica and an early Zorki, I suppose.

Interesting. It could have been a teaching program to learn the basics of the camera they were wanting to build, with parts from the German factory and U.S.S.R. manufactured bits of the trainee.

IMO.

@eli griggs From what I just read last night on the Soviet Cameras site, Fed was making Leica copies several years before the War, and the Leitz factory wasn't plundered as completely as the Zeiss ones, so it's hard to be sure (especially without the ability to examine the camera hands-on, with magnification available). Lack of an RF eliminates one way to tell if it's a Fed marked as a Leica would be to check the RF coupling mechanism -- from my reading, Fed uses a slightly different mechanism from Leica, such that some recalibration is required to interoperate Fed body with Leitz lenses or vice versa.

If it's actually a Leica that's turned up in Ukraine without provenance, it'd be the bargain of the decade, at least. It's priced not much above an Argus C series. Scale focus, of course, but I've shot hundreds of frames with scale focus and generally good results (a bit hit or miss with wide open close-ups, of course).

Your are right.

If I were a collector, and had the money to chance one way or another, it would be a deal and a good way to have either a Leica of FSU Leica fake.

However I am no a collector, do no have the funds to chance and without a direct examination by someone capable of understanding the differences, no interested in finding out though I am curious to know either way.

Thanks of the advice, Be Safe and Godspeed to you and all here.

You know Leica is overpriced when they get looted ahead of jewelers.
