I already mentioned that my Pentax ME weighs much less than my Leica M3.
Pentax MX too.

So let's not kid that it's because you want a light weight kit. It's because you want a free Leica.
Either way, this thread is very entertaining!

Ok, now add the lenses for that Pentax that parallel the lenses which I f have for a pocket camera with a greater range of possibilities; a good 28mm, 50mm, 90mm and of course, the 135, plus the hoods anduand colour correction filters, red, yellows, orange, green Polarizer and ND 10 stops, and the finder.
Yes, it is in part because of weight, the weight I chose in the form of kit, I want to work with, and that includes my physical abilities to carry the way I want to carry an every day kit and,the ability to have to hand what I might want on a walk about, as well as other factors.

I've been pretty clear I've other 35mm cameras,SLRs, etc. Including Pentax, so it shouldn't be any surprise to anyone that offering alternitives or simply saying, "use this" ordor this equals that, etc, suit as substitute kit, for what I'm looking for.

I do no mind being entertainment, however, have enough respect for the clowns to realize, only one type of tiny car will work for this show, and they know better why it will fit their needs, than what others think.

Cheers.

Those equivalent Pentax lenses are tiny. the 28 2.8 is almost a pancake. the 50 f2 is tiny and light etc

You do know that a good Leica 28, 50, 90 and of course, the 135, plus hoods and filters etc would cost over $6000? Or do you expect those free too?

You have made it clear you have other gear as you mention above, but I guess selling that stuff to finance the Leica doesn't make any sense if someone can just give you one.

That and the bragging rights that he talked someone into giving him a Leica.

I'm not sure that I can agree with the entertainment value. It is really a bit sad in my opinion. A true tight-fisted Scot wouldn't think of accepting this kind of charity. If this were truly important he/she would save their money and use their bargaining and horse trading skills to negotiate the best possible deal.

Golly, folks... give the guy a break. If you don’t like his request, or him as a person, just ignore. It’s really as easy as that.

Yes, I know the sizes of the Pentax kit, as I have a pair of k1000 with that 50 and a six element 13.5cm f2.5, which is itself, alone pretty close to the weight as the Industar 22, 5cm, the Sun 9.cm, and the Jupiter 13.5cm, and perhaps the Jupiter 3.5cm, should I find it or another Color Skopar 2.8cm.,
which I just posted that I plan to use on a Barnak, should I find one, but you seem to have skipped that part of my last message.

As far as selling those K1000s and lenses, as well as some other kit, you'll have to read further back to see why that's no possible.

As far as my ability, as a Scotts-Irish descendent to save enough to buy my own kit, well, that's something I've discussed publicly before and is no a topic I want to address in this Ask, so think what you wish, you will anyway.

Be Safe, Be Healthy and Godspeed to you and your's, and the same to all others here

too bad you don't have a childrens tv show and ask every kid to go into their parent's wallet and mail you one dollar. probably would end up with enough $$ to get your user, even if it is more than $10. but don't forget that is how soupy sales got fired from network tv and ended up on to tell the truth sitting next to kitty carlisle.. it would have been more fun to be arty johnson sitting next to JP Morgon especially when jean jean the dancing machine .. .. danced

Just buy my Kodak Retina IIIc for $200 shipped to your house so you can start shooting FILM. The Retina lens is a 50mm F2.0. Nice and fast and will give you images pretty close to a leica. All that for $200.

The problem with Leica is it's a fine camera, but it only comes out twice a year. I don't take the Leica out in the rain or the fog or the snow or the cold weather. It's a closet queen. The Retina. I have many. It's all you need.

Why buy a Ferrari, when you can buy a utilitarian car with 4 wheels and an AM radio.

But I did, all the way up to the M9. Just need to exercise a bit of judgement and make sure that things are clean and properly dried-out afterwards.

Near my old office, I used to see a late-model Lamborghini parked in a strip mall, and it appeared it was someone's daily driver. I figured if I ever met the guy, I'd want to shake his hand simply for being awesome.

I would freak out if somebody scratched it. lol

Simple solution for this: scratch it yourself. Put it somewhere less noticeable if you like, or right across the hood/bonnet. Once that first scratch is done, new ones will bother you less.

This is one of the aspects of used gear that I love.

No matter how well cared for, all used cameras and lens, carry marks, be it visible, hidden or psychological, which allows the photographer receiving the kit, to no be bothered by the same stresses, of making that first mark, scratch or ding, that somehow, mentally allows you to see a 'taint' the camera, so it can be used in a worry free style.

That, IMO, is a blessing, no to be lightly overlooked, by those of us that have bought all 'New" cameras and Lenses as part of a 'System' and then fretted over every bump to the bag, sometimes for weeks or longer killing the Joy of Using that New Kit, to make the photographs we want to make.

I'm old enough to have worked through those angst's, for myself, but for some, its a lifetime thing and that's a shame, as that camera/lenses will have become more of a burden, than a tool for expressing one's self and documenting the World as they see it.

Collectables are one thing, but nursing a new camera like a newborn, is altogether something else, and your photography will suffer for it.

Normal carry in a bag, or on a shoulder, will impart marks soon enough, and all it requires is for you to pick up that bag/camera and carry it everywhere you venture, out of the home, to the store, across town, on a bus ride, or across the street to look at your neighbor's new car, so, after awhile, you'll simply tire of the shots you're no making and pull out the kit and make the photograph that'll free you; every shot taken after that first one or three, will carry you away from the stress that was making you so miserable in the first place, and you can once again breath free.

IMO.

Totally agree. Nicely put.

I raced bicycles for years, and once I had a coach that insisted that the first thing you do when you get a new race rig is to drop it onto the ground so that it gets a few scratches on it right away. So that you aren't worried about it and can use it as properly intended.

Just came across this thread. Entertaining for sure, maybe a bit silly.....rolled into one. Some years ago, as a gag my wife printed up, on gummed paper, a sheet of ‘Leica’ red dot logos. Stick them on any camera you like. The current company that owns that brand name (not to be confused with the original company) might get their panties In a twist over such misappropriation, but I only used them for my own amusement, and nothing else.
My only current ‘red dot’ cameras are a couple of 6X9’s with the name Kodak printed on the dot.

Check out this Leica if you want 'wear':

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1659775/0#15320014

I've actually sold a Widelux F8 and an Xpan2 because they were perfect. I knew that the moment I put a mark on them I'd lose hundreds, so just unloaded them.
The F8 I hated anyway so no loss there (I was taken in by The Dude using one, but much prefer the Horizon or Noblex pano cams), the Xpan2 - I already had a Fuji TX2 so no loss.

I don't know that anyone from Leica Geosystems reads these posts.

Probably heard the story about the flea market I went to where a Leica M, with Summicron 35, 50 and Elmarit 90 were on the table and I asked how much... the seller said "what do you think"... I said it's worth a lot of money, maybe twice. Then I lied and said I had $100 on me and he took it.

I had $140 on me.

"The current company that owns that brand name" is a legitimate descendant of Leitz. When a firm splits into 3 new entities only one of them can own the brand name, the others may become licencees. Furthermore the amateur-camera manufacturer amongst them has undergone the most weird ownership changes and likely would be the least best owner of that brand name.

I like the idea with those stickers.
But yes, there have indeed quarrels arisen from such private rebranding with other manuacturers.
