Bump, with change. to include ask for non-working kit to try to repair myself, or for parts for a future repair.

Very many years ago a patient gave (loaned) me a new M4 that he said was too complicated for him. Several times I offered to buy it from him but he said just use it. After several years I got a good deal on some lenses and bought them. After ten years he came by and said " Doc, remember that camera I loaned you --- I'd like to have it back" I told him that I had bought a couple of lenses for it. He bought the lenses from me and took the camera.

Years ago at a thrift store in North Hollywood I found a torn plastic freezer bag containing a Leica tabletop tripod and a Leica IIIG owner's manual. Price was $16. When I asked the store manager who priced the stuff about it he said "there was a camera in the bag too".

$10 dollar Leica. Interesting request. I just bought a brand new Nikon F6 and a new Rollei Hy6 Mod 2 with two AFD lenses and a new old stock Rollei 6008AF. But I'd not be seen with a Leica, seriously. Never owned one and never had any interest. If someone gave me one, I'd sell it to you for $10, no problem.

Is that for the piece of vulcanite or for the M2?

Vulicanite from Fed IF I can find it ;-)

Otherwise, a patch of Sawyer's MK. IV skin or, 'Ten Mile' Orange Gorilla Tape, double or triple thick.

Occasionally, i think of using the Tape on the Mk. IV but I do no want the attention that will attract.

You might try to use the fallen piece to pattern either an epoxy/museum powdered graphite (for repairs of missing parts, ceramic, etc) or, a latex/graphite, built-up on a small, Bondo impression mold.

Bondo might work, i you can get a good black with the graphite.

Use a re-enforced latex mold for the epoxy.

I think the epoxy will work best, using Pliobond to set it back in place.
If it is too black, try suing a small amount of zinc white oil paint to lightly obscure the darkness.

All for fun. and let us know you're results.

Just curious why not? I was thinking maybe you do not like German cameras, but the Rollei negates that thought. You do not like rangefinder 35mm cameras? Too trendy? Not high-tech enough?

I do like the fact a Reid isnt suitable for the OP...

I have no turned down every Barnack Leica type, I know the Reid is one of the excellent ones out there, I simply have asked for two specific types, the Barnack or a 'M'.

It seems to me that a lot of the really good Barnack clones are just as valuable as the Leica or more so, because of Collectors and Fan-Boys, driving up the cost, just as they have the last few years for anything with the Leica tag on it.

I do have a bunch of Leica film cassettes, a Leica Sports Finder for several focal lengths, a Valloy II, which I use for all my condenser 35mm films and the odd bit and part left over from the Barnack kit I had to sell some years ago, and I prefer to look for a camera I already know and have Excellent film cassettes for, and which fit the M, but may no fit other Brands models.

Again, I know what I'm looking for, but if you or anyone else wants to offer up a Reid or other Barnack type, feel free to ask.

Be Well, Be Happy and Godspeed to all, and your Loved ones, Always.

Maybe you can find a used P-Sharan cardboard camera.

It looks like a lot of fun, but would only be a display piece, if I were to start displaying camera kit.

Cheers.

If you can increase your budget closer to $100-150 I think you'd have a much better chance of scoring a fixer-upper Leica from a stranger on the internet. Am guessing that free or nearly-free cameras are more likely to come from someone in your local area who has decided that you are a worthy cause, and that sort of judgement call is harder to make via a forum such as this.

I wondered when this thread would get resurrected again. It makes for entertaining reading.

There's also the fact that the OP has been actively buying gear in other threads. It makes it a bit harder to give away a Leica under those circumstances, but maybe someone, somewhere will go for it.

I am looking for a Leica for several reasons, which I have explained, as a daily carry camera, with changeable lenses, so I can no carry my heavier SLRs, which are be used at home and when on car shoots, where I have access to an area where I am at my car, (i have a handicap tag, so that helps, or within range of a garden cart, with kit.

Carrying a loaded bag more than a few blocks, kills my back, and my ability to breath properly, especially in warm/hot weather, and a lightweight camera, with lightweight lenses in a pocket or smaller bag, will, I hope, allow me a measure of freedom when it comes to street shooting or just day to day, no ore-planned day trips, shooting when I venture out.

I appreciate the tips on alternative kit but I have camera kit, and specific reasons why the Leica Rangefinder best meets my need.

Cheers and Godspeed to all.

I saw this thread months ago and havent been here in a while. Imagine my surprise at finding it still going, ten pages on.
To sum up, you want a LTM to use because its small and lightweight. You want it for $10. And, you wont accept a Russian clone.

I have a couple of Leica III bodies, a Zorki I, and a NIcca (which even has flash sync). Not a huge amount of difference between them. None at all in terms of results. So, if it's the reasons you described in your post above, explain why it has to be a Barnack Leica since I dont get it. You also stated you'd take an M off someone's hands for $10. Those are bigger and heavier than a Barnack and frankly heavier than most 90s plastic SLRs with AF. Not much more than $10 and you can get a Canon Elan 7 and a decent zoom lens.

You can ask all you want. I doubt you'll find anyone on here to give you a Leica based on your dubious argument. But hey, your odds are better than mine at winning powerball (since I dont bother to buy a ticket).

The kit I've been after was with the remainder of my stimulus budget, carefully considered, to best fill gaps of needed items.

A Leica Barnack in working order would have meant would have only been able to buy a couple of items, and no film, nor the main tools to repair the $125 'blad 50mm f4 C lens and the 150mm C T*, for the same, for parts and practice, the Nikon F, nor the Spotmatic for using the Pentax M42 lenses, etc i already have, on a Pentax M42 body.

I would no have been able to buy the 120 Tri-x, all three types, outdated but frozen that sits in my fridge, the Hasselblad lens hood clip for a small LED light, to be bought or traded for sometime next year, nor chemistry for my dark room.

Also, the Greylab digital timer, put up as a item for Photrio.com donation and shipping, a I needed to replace the analog dial timers I have been using in the darkroom, a large assortment of Vivatar Feet, metal and plastic for keeping my 8 - 10 283 and 285 lighting units working, and certainly, none of the other parts and items that came with the box, including slaves, and a correct size Gitzo tripod carrier to fit my main tripod, and that both are labeled "Gitzo", is just haw the coin fell.

There is more, all useful items, including colour and B&W films, in 120 and 35mm, which now populate my kit, filling those gaps, as I mentioned earlier, which give real service to me, and which, with the last approximately $200 left of my stimulus check, which is already partly spoken for, including, a basket case Hasselblad 500 C body for practice, parts and experience, to see me through the new year.

That I kept most of my buys here on Photrio.com also suits me just fine, and I do no have anything to feel 'guilty' about the choice I made, to continue the ask for a Leica, even one needing repairs like a CLA, vs. Decisions I took to kept to a budget that gives me much more bang for the buck.

As to Feds, etc, I have a Fed 3b, having shot Fed 2s, 3a, 4 and Fed 5s, metered and without, and still found my IIIC a better fit into my photography.

I'm no fan boy of either the Hasselblad nor the Leica's, but I do know, enjoyed and have owned and used these cameras, in the past, including the M3 SS, and I know what I like.

Your mileage may vary.

I have no pretended to no have other cameras, I do no take kit I won't use or know someone who can use it, and I'm no collector, so, as much as you may think I'm wrong or bad I am for bumping this thread, you, yourself do no have to protect the community from my ask, we're all adults here, and you do no have to follow this thread, if it is upsetting to you, it's simply no good for your Peace of Mind, (We've all experienced similar 'Distractions and Irks') so do what is best for your well being, and stay in or out of these posts, as you will.

I am still looking for a Leica, for my personal use, and likely will continue to do so for the near future.

Be Safe, Be Well and, Godspeed to All.
