The Ilford 120 film issue - which films have people seen affected?

I’ve only seen the backing paper/mottling problem on rolls of film that are past their expiration date. I haven’t seen it since I made a point of using all film before it gets to its “best before” date.

Only xp2 but it may have been a bit expired.

I don't shoot as much Ilford as I used to (fp4/hp5) but the delta 400 and 3200 I still use have never had this issue for me

I haven't shot much Ilford 120 film lately, but I haven't encountered it on the Delta 3200 I have shot.

This is the first I've seen/heard of this. Thank God. I just processed, together in the same tank, 2 rolls of FP4 exposed the same weekend, just a couple weeks before. One was perfect and the other had what looked like snow all over it. Coincidentally, most of it was shot outdoors, the day after a snowstorm, and so I thought there must have been near-invisible snow crystals blowing around. But there they were in a couple indoor shots too. It near drove me crazy.

I never had any problems with HP5+, I have shot about 4 bricks of HP5+ and 2 bricks of FP4+ the last years (from different batches)

The only film defect I've ever experienced was a chest X-ray that showed a large spot on my left lung. That led to a CT scan that found nothing, fortunately. The radiologist opined that the original X-ray film may have been compromised. Nonetheless, it was a stressful week for me.

Actually more like the 18th century, the metric system was developed in 1799 during the Age of Enlightenment and the French Revolution.

This problem is one caused by the paper, not the film and affected many companies including Ilford and Kodak.

Yes what problems with Ilford 120? I have seen none. Is that anymore valid that those with the opposite experience? I doubt it Does this help or hinder establishing what hoffy's problem might be? No not a bit, anymore than I believe anyone else's posts can. I fail to see how we can help here in terms of helping hoffy make a reasonable decision on what he does.Is there any way we can establish if it's a Ilford problem at source or a problem outwith Ilford's control? I doubt it

The best I can manage is to say: Contact Ilford, hoffy with all the details you can muster and see what it says

Note from Ilford website, not sure if it is a factor. I order film and paper in the colder months, keep everything in a refrigerator.

"Storage: Our films should be stored below 20C / 68F as shown on the bottom of each box. It is important to avoid extreme high temperatures, humidity or fluctuating temperatures."

I store all my unopened film in the freeze and opened film in the refrigerator. I have been doing that for over a decade.

In the last couple of days I've run 5 rolls of HP5+ that had exp dates of Oct 2019 and Nov 2020. they had been stored at "room temperature" for a couple of years. I had no spotting, mottling or backing paper bleed through on any of them.

The problem came from paper problems. So far it has not been linked to storing at room temperature, refrigerating, or freezing. I freeze all my film.
