I think they are called "double rail" holders, Anybody?

With a look to an old Rada filmholder and rollfilm cassette prospect I linked in the other thread you should find the precise Typus:

Filmholders have been named from their construction, especially the connection of the parts with a "Falz" (fold?).
Unfortunately I forgot the typus of my similar 9x12cm filmholders - could be the Millon Falz.
Linhof and Plaubel have exclusively (to my opinion) sold this cassettes, and they are compatible.
What I clearly can see from negatives loaded to my 9x12cm filmholders is that they make the film more flat than plastic holders like Fidelity.
I really love them but 10 holders in the pocket is a weight

Thank you for your contribution Reginal S. I have to agree a pile of metal plates is VERY heavy  But Uber precisely intricately made beautiful construction. Yes they DO hold the film way flatter than Graphic film holders. The film is "clamped" in the holder super flat

I think what I might have, is (from Peco Jr Brochure from USA Olden Camera) is maybe a PJ1/325? Adapter for spring loaded ground glass screen, 6.5x9cm, for UNIVERSAL DARKSLIDE 6.5x9cm, with NORMAL DOUBLE GROOVE according to the brochure

Makiflex 180 F2.8 Zebra Sonnar FOMA by Nokton48, on Flickr

The zebra 180mm F2.8 CZJ Sonnar (uber hacked rear mount completely removed, refitted into Plaubel Peco Jr recessed board). Makiflex Standard FOMA 200 Mic-X. Lens will just cover, 18"x18" area is as far out as it will focus. Amazing Sonnar bokeh. This lens is a fave for Pentacon Six fans, this is pushing the envelope with larger format. I like the delicate natural lighting on this one.

Saw this today over on the LFF Forum. Tracy Storer at Mammoth Camera is making CNC Makiflex Lensboards. These look really good to me.

FS: Plaubel Makiflex and LInhof 57 Technika lensboards.

New production, cnc cut, black anodized aluminum, made by me, aka Mammoth Camera Co.

Small Plaubel flat lensboards which fit the Makiflex, these are 1/16" thick. First two photos. (second photo shows one original stamped board, and two of my production) Current batch are 0.0625" thick, black anodized aluminum
$50 each shipped in the US ($40 each for two or more)

See these two photos:

I am in the process of ordering a few for myself. Will report further

Makiflex Standard BandL Super Cinephor Linhof Graflex Back by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is my second Makiflex Standard, bought from a shoppe in Vienna. It has been heavily, professionally modified. Note the custom Side Handle. The Front Standard is HEAVILY MODIFIED, note the precison machine werk. Quite a bit of the camera has been removed! Right under the lens is a LENS SWING MECHANISM, which has a ball detent (NICE) and swings the front standard on the optical axis of the lens. Quite a bit of Swing is possible, seems very sturdy and built to last. The cool thing about the Standard Makiflex, is that the inside throat is more spacious, and has no cables getting ini the way of BEEG lens. This boat anchor of a lens, is a Bausch&Lomb Super Cinephor, 159.1mm F2.0, which is outrageously fast. It looks great I think on this camera, and it will get some use this Spring, I can tell you. It's going to be FUN. This is a olde lens meant for 70mm and 35mm Cinema Projection, like in a commercial theatre. Cool that it fits the Standard, but won't fit my Automatic Makiflex, for the above reasons. So this lens is an Uber Speed Light Sucker, great that I can swing the front, say like, when doing a portrait or still life. On the back is the Makiflex 4x5 Holder that takes Linhof Plate Holders, or Graflex Graphic Holders, with the flip of a couple of switches top and bottom. Linhof Holders are much thicker, and can also take planfilm or glass plates. They are mucho Deluxe

Mammoth Camera CNCed Plaubel Makiflex Boards by Nokton48, on Flickr

I ordered these three Plaubel Makiflex Lens Boards, from Tracy Storer at Mammoth Camera. He made them on his CNC, annodized them and they are quite sturdy and well made. I added the light trapping, now they fit tightly on all of my Makiflexes. Good Deal Forty Bucks each in quantity including shipping. I will recommend them, how many new things can you buy for Makiflex? LOL Last time I conversed with Geoff Berliner at Penumbra, he told me that Frank Rubio (The Camera Doctor, first floor Penumbra tenant) has a CNC and would be making Maki boards too. Maybe something for somebody here to enquire? Frank repaired one of my Makiflexes and did a good job

Makiflex Auto Petzval Ortho+ ADOX Borax MQ by Nokton48, on Flickr

Another test this time Makiflex Automatic 9x12cm Ilford Ortho + Petzval lens ADOX Borax MQ (D76 type I mix myself) replenished 1/250 F4 EI 50 Key Day No fill. Aristo #2 8x10 #2 RD print Ilford Multigrade dev. I removed the central stop in this "lantern lens" which causes a strong loss of sharpness from the center, but makes the lens wide-open about F3.5 eight inch lens or so. The central stop was blackened by a candle I think, the soot got all over my fingers.

SK Grimes is willing to take on the task of building a graflok adapter for me; if you can send me the dimensions of yours when you have a chance, I'm sure it would be helpful to them. Thanks!
Hi amerz, this is very exciting. I would like to also have one made up too if you don't mind me tagging along! Did you manage to find the dimensions?

Dan, I'm so glad to see you keeping this thread alive. I finally decided to join Photrio so I can participate here.

Last week I managed to score the Xenotar in Makiflex mount which was up on eBay. It has some separation between the second and third elements, luckily I have found a front cell and I'm just waiting for that to arrive.

I shot 3 rolls of 120 with the Xenotar and Makiflex on the weekend. As soon as I get the processed shots back (a week or so) I will scan and post a few shots here. Looking through that giant 9x9 ground glass viewfinder and the 2.8 aperture is something indescribable. The element separation does not seem to affect the image at all.

It feels good to get the Makiflex out of storage after a few years hiatus. I've had a hell of a time with the pandemic and natural disaster in my home town. Finally life is returning to normal.

J Lane Dry Plate Maki Brass Petzval 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

  • 9x12cm J Lane Dry Plate Test exposed EI 1 dev straight Legacy Mic-X 18 minutes at 60F. Plaubel Makiflex 6 inch Brass Projection Petzval about F4. Arista 8x10 RC Matte #2 dev Multigrade. Omega DII with Omegalite Diffusion Head. RADA 9x12cm Normalfaltz Plate Holder with Makiflex Attachment.
I focused on the petals in the center, focus falloff front and behind due to paper thin depth of field. There was a metal stop inside this lens that was smoked by candle soot I believe. I removed the stop to increase the Petzval swirlies and increase the speed wide open to somewhere near F3.5

Hi Alex! Glad you are here! That 150mm F2.8 Xenotar for Auto Makiflex is quite a find! I just found it on Ebay records, those tiny spots should not affect your photographs at all. Amazing to look through, isn't it? I only shoot wide-open with mine, otherwise what is the point? I picked up a couple of 77mm 4X Neutral Density filters so I can shoot the Xenotar in brighter light at F2.8.

Glad also that you are feeling better!!

150 Xenotar Auto Makiflex Foma by Nokton48, on Flickr

Auto Makiflex 150 Xenotar Foma 200 6x9cm rollfilm tripod Microdol-x straight replenished. 8x10 #2 Arista RC Multigrade dev Omegalite DII 180 black Rodagon. This image has that gritty, retro look to it. I like it and it looks to me like something that would have been in the original Schneider catalog sheets. A sucess in that respect.

My first Handheld Makiflex Automatic image! I think a success. 150mm F2.8 Xenotar wide-open, Foma 200 Legacy Mic-X Replenished. I showed this to Geoffrey Berliner, he said "I like your fish".

My Makiflex Cameras by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here are my four Makiflexes (three Autos and a Standard) ready for use. This morning I was out photographing a new flower arrangement on my back deck. I used the 21cm f4.5 Makiflex Auto iris Heliar, that the rig on the far left. Bokeh at F16 with the Heliar is magnificent. I shot four 9x12cm HP5+ sheets in Voigtlander plate holders. I really like this new camera. It's like an old friend, as comfortable as an old pair of favorite shoes grinning face with smiling eyes. I have quite a lot of new exposed film to develop as I have time.

Dan, Do you prefer the modified RB67 or the GX680 finder more? I'm considering emulating your finder modification, and there's an RB chimney finder on eBay for a bargain price right now.

Alex,

If I could have only one modified finder, it would be the RB67 Stovepipe Viewfinder. That one I have had the meter in it, I removed all that, and recovered the finder with black leather. I bolted it to the base of a Makiflex Popup Hood, which was "huffed" as we say, not popping up right. Then I used adhesive grey foam rubber cut with razor blade, to light-tight the finder. It's very good to look through, the adjustable ocular is fantastic. The GX680 finder I have not used as much, it works well on a tripod. I did cut a piece of circular black adhesive foam rubber to cover the top of the RB67 Eyepiece, so it won't scratch my eyeglasses.

Geoff Berliner made a base for his 2x3 Arca Swiss Stovepipe, cutting a pile of metal sheets (the right thickness) he uses for making tintypes. Then he used velcro to attach the viewfinder to the pile of cut metal plates. Nice thing about the Arca finders (I have a 2x3 and the 4x5 one works way better) is that the eyepiece can rotate 45 degrees and the eyepiece screws down tightly. The 4x5 Arca Swiss Finder is very high-eyepoint.

When shooting the Plaubel Makiflexes with 150mm F2.8 Schneider Xenotar, I only use the lens wide open. On a bright day I add one or two 77mm 4X Neutral Density Filters to cut down the amount of light going through the lens. Each filter subtracts two stops, with higher speed films this is mandatory
