Auto Makiflex 150 Xenar ERA 100 EI 50 ADOX BORAX MQ by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is 4x5 ERA film Ei 100 Schneider Auto Makiflex 150mm f4.5 Xenar. Lens has auto aperture Makiflex provision. Stoked to have it

I like ERA 100 and I loaded up at good prices in all sheet sizes when they were shutting down production. All deep frozen

Don't have a digital back for Makiflexes but I do have a Polaroid #405 back and a Makiflex Graflock Back, as well as quite a lot of 3000 speed Fujiroid. As you can see this particular pack film is close to covering the entire 9x9 field. And instant analog feedback is so much fun

Hi - finally managed to get my Pecoflex dug out from the attic! Sorry for the poor pictures of the beast. As I still have a lot to attend to I frankly dont know when I may get around to actually take some pictures with it. Probably not before spring, as I'm decidedly another

That is a georgeous Pecoflex you have there, Lorbitar! And you have the double cable release, too! So it works with MAkiflex Automatic iris lenses, like you have there. What a beauty. Do you have any holders for sheets, or roll holders for roll film?

This a quite a rare piece. Once I saw one here came from Louisiana, only once. And a few on Ebay over thirty five years

I think I have a somewhat similar bag bellows from a Peco Junior; The Pecoflex Adapter is a somewhat different deal.

Yours will work with shorter lenses, and mine, works better with longer lenses I have found through experimentation

Good Show!

Today I should receive my second Makiflex Standard Body with barrel 180mm Xenar. And the HOLY GRAIL the Makiflex Cable Release! Last time I saw one on Ebay it went over Two Hundred Dollars.

It's been close to two month's shipment from Germany. With all the oddball lenses I own at this point, it will be good to have another Standard model. The Standard model takes recessed Plaubel lensboards, the Automatic model does not

Thanks for the comment, Nokton! I have various backs, in fact I bought some from Olden, in the late seventies I believe. I agree the Peco. must be rather uncommon, I don't think I've seen more than one other on ebay. Insane price for the cable release! I bought a complete Makiflex standard here in Cph. abt a year ago for abt. four hundred, and with the cable release. It worked for about 10 exposures, then stuck. Have to try to find time to service it. Luckily the Peco works. Congrat. with your new Standard!

Standard Makiflex No.2 180 Xenar 6x9 Makina Back Makiflex Cable by Nokton48, on Flickr

This just arrived on our Thanksgiving table, A Makiflex Standard from Team Foto in Germany. Ordered in middle October just now arrived. Comes with Schneider 180mm f4.5 Xenar in barrel, 6x9cm Plaubel Makina Roll Film Back, original Makiflex Cable Release, and Waist Level Viewfinder. It is good to have two Makiflex Standards at this point. This camera is great for specialty lenses and anything really wide (around 120mm or so).

Linhof Rollex 6x6 6x9 Film Backs Recovered Skins by Nokton48, on Flickr

In the bottom right is the Plaubel Makiflex Graphic-type Adapter. My preference now for shooting 6x6 and 6x9 120 film are the early model Linhof Rollex Wind Knob backs. Two of these I stripped off the mouldy grey leather, and reskinned them with black rubber procured from the Rollei factory in Germany. This rubber was meant for the Anniversary Model Rollei SL66 but looks great on the old Rollexes.

What I prefer about these backs on the Makiflexes, is the "feel" and tactile winding sensations, very similar to the Makiflex bodies shutter wind "feel" and very solid and massive, which the Makiflexes are as well. So a very good matching of the film backs to the camera bodies in my opinion

500mm Schneider Tele Xenar on Makiflex Standard by Nokton48, on Flickr

Amazingly this focuses to infinity when attached to the Plaubel Peco Jr Tubus. A friend in England purchased the tubus for me and then shipped it to me. It's kind of rare I think.

This lens appears tack crisp, and lower in contrast, in the viewfinder of the Makiflex. I could probably hand hold it at 1/500 (maybe). This is cool and I'm glad I grabbed it. Sometimes the 360mm Tele-Xenar just does not have enough telephoto pull for me.

500mm TeleXenar vs 350 PlanarS by Nokton48, on Flickr

My present favored long lens for 6x6 is the 350mm f5.6 Tele-Planar on the EL/M. I hand hold this outside even at outdoor rock concerts. Above is the 9x9cm/4x5 Plaubel Makiflex Automatic with the 500mm f5.5 Tele Xenar. This camera has a patented braking system for vibration free release. Previous to this longest lens available was the 360mm f5.5 which I have in Auto Iris Maki mount. The 360mm has also been hand holdable with this camera. . I can shoot 4x5/9x12 sheet film (have both) as well as 6.5x9 Plaubel Makina backs or anything Graphic mount.

The Makiflex needs a solid tripod, The cable release is modified Sinar Norma, with an adapter a machinist friend made for me.

Nice set-up! And not to be nitpicking - but it's too long to be a 350 Tele-Tessar - but perhaps you have a spacer tube mounted on camera? Incidentally I agree the 350 Tele-Tessar is a nice handling piece of equipment. Yours seems to be a very nice sample (as opposed to mine).. I'm not sure I ever saw the 500 Tele-Xenar in actual life. But impressive it is!

Hi Lorbitar,

Yes you are right the 350mm has the big extension tube attached, shooting some flower closeups in the studio. The 350mm I can handhold very well, tried the 500mm several times, it is a tripod only lens and twice I have sent one back for refund.

The 500mm Tele-Xenar reflex shooting 3 1/4x 3 1/4" on 9x12cm sheet film is a treat. In fact with the Maki may be on par with the Hasselblad

Dan, what about adding some 15mm or even 19mm supporting rods for 500mm lens on Makiflex? There is a lot of force transferred from that lens to the front standard. I never tried 350 for Hasselblad, but 250 is also very nice lens.

Hi Goran,

That is a great idea to add supporting rods. I sold my Hassy 250mm but the 350mm is not going anywhere.
Merry Christmas and Good Health and Good Luck in the coming year

Dan, I like your Christmas card this year! Right one!
For rods and other metal video camera hardware accessories I have been happy customer of SmallRig company. Nice balance of price, quality and service. Of course there are thousands of brands for it on Ebay. Please let me know if you need any help with it?
In Hasselblad viewfinder, how dark top of picture is with 350mm?

Thanks Goran for the link. Looks good I will investigate further.

With my 500C/M and 500EL/M I have not noticed any mirror cutoff that I can remember. If I see any I simply adjust compostion. Not a major issue for me

I seem to remember the 500 Tele-Xenar advertised by Linhof as mounted on a SuperTechnika 5x7?
And thank you vm for the seasons greetings; the same to You and All!
Nice pamphlet!.

Thanks. You are correct the 500mm was advertised with the 5x7 Technika. I have a good friend who is a Linhof collector; I am a Sinar Norma Guy and here is my new lens neatly mounted on my 5x7 Sinar Norma.

And of course I will come up with a permanent well balanced mounting for my Makis. This will get some good use in that way

Maki Std No 2 Camera has AXIAL SWING on lens axis 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Maki Std No 2 Camera has AXIAL SWING on lens axis 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Shortly after I received this camera (from a shoppe in Prague) I was bummed, it first appears maybe impact damaged? As the bottom front of the camera has been replaced, what is going on? NOW I realize the true genius of this ingeneous hack as the camera actually has FULL AXIAL AXIS SWING MOVEMENTS. I am stunned, never seen this before. It works a treat, even handheld. Shown here with the 150mm barrel Heliar on Peco Jr board. So it has some of the movement capability of the Pecoflex. This will be unreal with the 150mm F2.8 Xenotar. I'm so glad I bought this camera after watching it for what seems like forever. It even has what feels like ball detents at the zero position. A masterful modification highly useful to me

I like my first Maki Std but this one is UNREAL!
