Also they just re-enforced the LF rules and now have separated the "everything else" for tiny format view camera work as well as any other photo sizes, SEPARATE, they have 4x5 and larger only portion, and something about keeping that separate I think will truly bring out the best in the forum, just amazing work.

There is *some* good work on there, but I am surprised the percentage is not higher. For example, I am a lot more impressed by the work I see on Rangefinder forum, I think the hit to dud ratio on that site is far higher. The show us your darkroom print thread is my favorite one on any forum, just fantastic stuff in legit presentation, not some truncated scan of a neg juiced up in Photoshop.

I'm picky though, photography has been around for a loooong time, I want to be blown away.

Really? Ugh I hate the RFF, then again I only look in the Mamiya7 threads as I don't own a leica, and generally don't have interest in 35mm. I don't know, but also just don't like the people there LOL, maybe it's changed. Finally, the fact they refuse to switch to tapatalk and are still using that other forum app that keeps having issues, makes it a pain to visit or see images.

I checked and it seems we don't have a "show us your darkroom print" thread here on APUG.
I like this idea so I'd like to open one right now! Or do you want to do the honors, PKM-25?
Since it is your idea in the first place.

+1 PKM25 please start such a thread on APUG after all this is what Apug is all about. Which makes me wonder why we don't have such a thread.

Seems Jnanian got there first.

Think what was being suggested was a "darkroom print" thread, not a "darkroom portrait" thread.

Some subscriber members get a bit agitated when it is suggested that image threads are started in the main body of the forum (presumably because it upsets them that non-subscribers can see other peoples' work without paying a sub to use the gallery) ... be interesting to see how this goes down ... :whistling:

I guess that is one of the reasons I find it the best site on the web for actual photography, most people are open to seeing all good work, not mentally blocking some of it off because of what it was made with. Conversely, I have noticed a snobiness with some people who use large format on LFF, they even call themselves large format photographers instead of just photographers. Most great photographers I know who use large format don't do that, that is one of the tools they happen to use to get to an image. Even though there is a good amount of digital work shown on RFF, there is a TON of great work shown made on film.

After what happened on LFF in terms of outrageous conduct of a person selling something on that site, I am seeing a few classified ads I posted through and then kicking it to the curb, too much snotty attitude and not nearly enough substance to back it up. The nail in the coffin for me was the way a mod dealt with the report of the conduct, no reply, no action. Me + LFF = Done!

By the way, if for some reason you find it a waste of time to look at fantastic images made in 35mm, there is a thread for large format on RFF too.

Thanks but I will pass, this site is not really suitable for "thread" style presentation of images. The other problem is that the ones that are good for it, LFF, RFF only really show off work large inline that is posted elsewhere like Flicker and I have no interest in using Flickr.

For the money all the folks here pay for this site, it could and should be a lot better in a lot of ways.

PKM... I had a similar experience on LFPI regarding what I would call protectionistic behavior of a few particular members by a certain Mod or two. In fact, my comments regarding said behavior are mostly what got me banned from that forum. It's too bad because otherwise it's an outstanding forum and I do miss it.

I'll certainly use it as a read-only reference which is what I am trying to do with a lot of forums lately, but it is what it is....

It's not so much that it upsets people, it's that each image takes up space on the server, and the server space and expanding the service-based costs money, that is why we as subscribers are allowed to post images in the gallery, because we help to pay for the server costs, that is why we are given the privilege of posting images. That's why we get upset when people try to start image threads, because it takes up valuable server space and is rude to the owners of the site who can't keep adding hard drive after hard drive to the server for free. It's not elitism it's just common sense.

Who get upset? Please don't speak for me.

I don't always agree with you, Stone, but this is absolutely correct.

Edited my post because of a misunderstanding on my part

This is the way the Site is run and we should accept it

As for the issue about "server bays", there isn't one, and anyone who thinks there is simply fails to understand that linking to images from other sites (e.g. Flickr, 500px and so on) rather than adding images as attachments will have no effect on APUG's server storage, and will only have the tiniest impact on bandwidth usage as the images are drawn down from the site on which the images are actually hosted directly to the user's computer.

Furthermore there is nothing in the site rules that says that images hosted elsewhere cannot be posted here. The only "rule" in that regard would be one invented by subscribing members who don't like to see it done.

If however Sean as the site owner wishes to ban it, so be it.

exactly pdeeh

if posting images in threads was disallowed, for non-subscribers
i am sure sean would have something in place to take care of it...
and as you have seen anyone can post images to a thread ...
and the groups area is for non subscribers as well, and last i checked
each group had its own gallery.

it seems to be more of an aesthetic reason to have a gallery
and not image threads in addition to a gallery. personally
i think threads full of attached images are hard to navigate and
the LLF started having them a few years ago because they DIDN'T have a gallery
and the membership wanted to post images image threads ...
so it was kind of a band-aid. and other sites did it so why not.

here there are threads full of images and non paying areas full of images
so in the end, does it really matter ?

I didn't say anything about linked images. Just images hosted here.

My counter to that would simply be that by allowing images to be hosted somewhere else and then link here, constantly, the interest for subscribers would lesson and there wouldn't be enough income coming into support the site itself, so it's a trade-off and I'm sure that there's a reason they choose to have the site way they do. Ok I'm done.

Also, I fixed the error "server space" was how it should have read. Lol
