Another trendy Trabant story:

https://www.nydailynews.com/autos/latest-reviews/what-its-like-to-drive-a-trabant-article-1.3725679

This reminds me of the Kiev:

"Besides the fact that it was manufactured largely unchanged from 1957 to 1991..."

The Kiev was designed in the mid-1930s and (with a few small modifications) was produced into the 1980s (my 4a is 1978 I think)- and I am not counting the Kiev 5. The difference between the Trabant and the Kiev, is the Kiev is a good design and a very decent camera.

Same. I actually hit a parked on with my bike and my knee made a whole in the driver door. If that was metal my knee would have been shuttered.

Yeah, a Leica is a Kleinbild camera, small format. I prefer my four-five Anniversary Folmer Graflex. The best part of a Leica is a Summicron but a Leicina 8 S has a Summicron, too. Reason for the S in the designation. Leitz never told that. https://jimdo-storage.global.ssl.fastly.net/file/28f17f54-9806-46be-a9c4-79af0f33b9bb/Die Leicina ist 60.pdf
There is a Summicron lens on the new Leica cellphone, which is a rebadged Sharp Aquos R6, whatever that is. The Leica glow will set you back $1700 when available.

Morgan still makes its car with ashwood frames, no?

I never liked the Aero8, it looked cross-eyed with those headlights, but the Plus-Six? Oh man...

Just looked at the Morgan website. My understanding from it is that a "bonded aluminum platform" has replaced the steel chassis. I think the body panels were, and it looks like still are, applied to an ash wood frame. Thank you for making me aware of the Aero 8, I actually kinda like its looks but would prefer a Plus 4 or 6. Over the past year I briefly fantasized off and on about the revived three wheel Morgan but I understand its been discontinued.

At this point in my life I think I'll let my lust for fine classic machinery be satisfied by my Monarch 10EE toolmaker's lathe,

As for the Trabant, it makes the Yugo look good.

made from recycled low grade soviet cotton waste and phenol from the dye industry..
that's good stuff!

Actually, what’s good about the trabant, moskvitch and all those carsthat used cardboard/duroplast/cotton fiber is that they don’t rust. They are very charming in the setting of old european villages. If they were rusted, they’d be unbearable to look at. As it is, they’re cute.

As we have had the Trebant manufacture video, here is the Aston Martin version (a bit like a Leica manufacture)

Depends on the model--the Morgan West Coast distributor is located not far from me, I might just pop by and ask. My understanding is the Plus 4 has an ash body, frame is steel (maybe aluminum now), body is aluminum and steel. But the neat one is the 3-wheeler with the v-twin motor exposed in front.

not only are they cute and don't rust they might have been made from uncle Joe or uncle leonid's old discarded tighty whiteys !

Imagine that, a car that actually has skid marks!
LOL !
sadly it comes up a blank page, at times I wish I had less self control to to take people off ignore and see what all the hubbub was about !
just call me Jorge, I have about 200 people on ignore so it could be virtually anyone !
Agreed. So which would you pick if you had the choice of the two I laid out (an excellent mechanic who uses Craftsmen tools, or a lousy one that uses Snap-On)?
I'd pick the one who has the better roach-coach that comes at 1030, or the nicer receptionist, its usually the craftsman person, snap on people are so you know high brow...

Open the link in a different browser - one in which you are not logged into the forum. You can "spy" on those you ignore thusly.
as much as I would like to do that as mentioned I have very little self control and I might say or do something I might regret !
how about an art history type description of what is being depicted in the link for those of us who are unable to see it 1st hand ?

Photos.

Ignoring people gives them the power to say what they want unhampered.
