Kentmere 100 & 400 in 120 format

It wouldn't surprise me if Amplis, as the exclusive Canadian distributor, isn't able to fill US orders - their "checkout" seems to restrict sales to Canadian addresses.

Very excited to get to try some of this stuff, but the wait is interminable. Harman announced it back on December 1, but seem to be taking their sweet time to get it distributed. Still nothing at Freestyle or B&H, which you'd think would've been among the first places to get it in North America. Hoping to get it from Freestyle so I can combine with an order for more L110 developer.

Wonder what the holdup is?

If I haven't bought out the 400, Reformed Film Lab still has some in both speeds.

When I looked yesterday morning they had both 100 and 400 available, but with a limit of 5 rolls per customer. It seems they sold out. Check Blue Moon Camera - they still have the Kentmere 100 in stock this morning.

FWIW, I got the best results when exposing K-100 at 50 ASA and developing it in D-76 as if it was exposed at box speed.

You can expose Kentmere 100 and 400 at box speed, if processed "normally." They can even be pushed effectively, gaining some shadow detail in the process. I found these two films to be terrific.

I always give film at least 1/2 to 1 stop exposure over box speed, and find negs easier to print (more shadow information).

I use the actual Zone System exposure and getting what I want rather than approximate.

Yeah the canadian prices basically give it away for free...

Seriously a 24 exp roll of delta 400 is merely 8.99 CAD... in the US conversion that would be roughly 6.74. BH photo sells it for 8.99 us...

so roughly the canadian price is what the cost per roll for 36 exposure when pulled from a bulk roll... but the cad price of a bulk roll is 119 CAD,, but for currency conversion 89.15 per 100' roll, or final price of 4.95 if cut to 36 exp rolls.

Seriously... why is America being screwed over on the film... seriously if the canadians can afford to give us 1$ viagra... why cant we get the low cost film too

When Harmon announced that K-100 and K-400 would be produced in 120 I bought a 100 foot roll of each and began testing in my spare time. The K-100 seems to be good film. I developed it in DK-50 without potassium bromide at 1+7 for 13 min. at 68 degrees and zone 1 ended up being .1 above FB+F at 80 EI. And zone 8 was 1.26 above FB+F. The first and only roll of pictures so far have real tight grain and it is a very very sharp film. My low cost film had been Fomapan 100, and this is much better. I haven’t tried it in other developers yet so I have no idea how it will work there. Next week I will be testing the 400 speed version if I have time.

No, they're not. And the base seems more susceptible to water drying marks than many other 120 and sheet films. The B+F density is around .29.

I can't really speak to curves, etc, but in the one roll I've shot so far it's performed as well as I expected based on my experience with the 35mm versions. Foma/Arista 100 has been my go-to 'testing' 120 film thus far, and I definitely like the results with Kentmere 100 better. Foma always has a sort of...I dunno, muddy aspect to me. Likely partially my fault since I develop with HC-110 and I don't think that's a great match. The best thing about Kentmere in comparison, though? No purple spots! I would say at least 80% of my Foma/Arista rolls have suffered the purple spot issue.

Here's an utterly unscientific and barely useful comparison, 100% crops shot on two different cameras (one of which has misaligned lens elements and is currently in for a CLA) about a year apart and camera-scanned at different resolutions. Is it even worth posting? Who knows!

On the left is Foma 100, shot on a Super Fujica Six. On the right is Kentmere 100, shot on a Fujica GS645. Both have been 'scanned' (pretty haphazardly in this case) with a Sony NEX-7 in several stitched shots, then resized so that the long edge is 6000px. The Kentmere has been downsized by a slightly larger percentage, so that does give it a bit of an advantage here. Note the dreaded spots!

IME, these 120 films are quite excellent. The 100 ASA Kentmere reminds me of Verichrome Pan.
