Hmmm... well, it would seem the store has opened up to no store...

In typical FILM Ferrania fashion, things don't appear to be going as planned. Maybe remove that countdown timer and replace it with "Opening Soon!"?

Exactly, seems tha people in the US were able to allmost add to cart. But here in Europe I was not able to see the product or see a log in tab.
Any ideas?

Ruh-roh.

We apologize - after opening the shop early to select Kickstarter Backers, our site was overwhelmed. We are in the process of upgrading to a custom server solution and we will send out an email to everyone on our list when it is ready.

Our developers simply lied to us. We warned them again and again about the traffic and they assured us again and again (and again) that their system could handle whatever we came their way.

Not a good day. And of course another opportunity for the "told you so's" to sound off.

ugh.

The devs tell me that we had over 20K people trying to hit the shop at any given moment. Not defensible, of course, because I told them it could be 50K.

BUT - we only sent the "early access" link to 2610 Backers who chose to receive a coupon, along with a note that they should not share their early access publiclly. It seems we were ignored.

We're currently waiting for an entirely new IP address to propagate around the world...

But some of the posters here seem to think that Ferrania can do no wrong and that it is sacrilage if anyone offers any comment which such posters might not agree with.

Oh... We can do some wrong. That's for sure.

I think the point all along has been that we're not afraid to do wrong in the short term, as long as we keep on track for the long-term. And at this point, we are ahead of that curve, despite outward appearances.

I'm not going to blame a crashed server on film makers. I would assume that the server would crash as soon as the store opens. It's a mulligan.

No worries, Dave.

I work in Enterprise Network IT and actually would have been pleasantly surprised if the site hadn't crashed or significantly slowed down. Look at how quickly everyone got here on APUG to talk about it.... You guys just got us all too excited!

Network folks always overestimate the size of their bandwidth

Maybe it's time to remove the countdown timer from the front of your main page? It's counting backwards now... into negative time...

The store wasn't working within 10-15 minutes of the "backer's" e-mail being sent out. I got as far as the payment page before it glitched and logged me out (even then, it didn't apply the discount code properly).

Is the pricing for the film going to remain the same after the "Alpha" version? The current price makes it one of the most expensive 80-125 speed 35mm B&W films available.

Here we go again. In your own words you're not getting the point.

Some posters think that some of the complaints are disproportionate. Ferrania are on a very steep learning curve. I think we should cut them some slack whilst they're on the path to full production.

From that point on they will have to be firing on all cylinders. The market won't allow anything else. But it takes time to get something like this off the ground and there will undoubtedly be many more issues and mistakes along the way.

Folks.....20,000 people tried to buy FILM today.

If that ain't great news I dont know what is.
+1

Over 20K people?! Which also means It's OVER 9000 visitors accessing the server?!
This is really great news!!

Sorry for your miserable week, PE.

I'm glad you're okay (I say this because, in another discussion string, we had a very active user suddenly stop posting. Someone in his area asked neighbors, who told him our friend had passed away - on his bed, next to his laptop computer - with our string on the screen).

Sorry to hear of your loss, and sorry to hear of the weather in your area. Best wishes.

This is very sad news, didn't catch this bit earlier.

It also speaks volumes on how faithful some APUG members are !

wonder how long it will take, but the server folks did apparently use the Biggest- Baddest cloud host network. of course I have not way to check if the DNS has updated. Still can't get the page to load however.

!$ host shop.filmferrania.it
shop.filmferrania.it has address 54.173.130.75
~$ host 54.173.130.75
75.130.173.54.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ec2-54-173-130-75.compute-1.amazonaws.com.

That's more or less the most accurate comment I recall you making. That there will be "issues and mistakes along the way" is a given; it is the management thereof and particularly the degree to which allowances for unforeseen mishaps and setbacks are built into their planning that is vital at this point - and there is no reason for them not to be able to show their ability to do so right now. Again, nobody is expecting them to fire on all cylinders at this stage. In a sense, it is not so much us but they who need to cut themselves some slack by allowing for more setbacks than they can imagine. Unforeseen events are just that - unforeseen. Like the overwhelming demand for their product, which is fantastic news, but also creates bigger challenges.

It is not quite the case that they are still operating outside "the market", so to speak. They are inviting retailers and distributors to sign up with them with an eye on future business dealings. Here in South Africa, there are a couple of small outfits doing their best to promote film and to supply in the growing demand that there is. I recently urged one of them to look into establishing a relationship with Film Ferrania, perhaps offering to become a local distributor. The importance of creating an impression of professionalism right now cannot be overstated, and I am sorry if you think the "complaints" (which they are not) are "disproportionate". I am also sorry that our constructive comments are interpreted as "negativity", and that Film Ferrania's own spokesperson reacts disparagingly towards those who are actively supporting them.

We are all on the same side, and in that spirit I propose a toast to Film Ferrania - may the overwhelming demand they are already experiencing, be a sign of great things to come!

I could tell you, but we (the KS backers) were asked not to share info with others until the shop opens for all, which was supposed to be only for a couple of hours.

David would come and say the price or if we can share that info.

I see, thanks.

Well, I just ordered 5 rolls of P30 - and got an email afterwards thanking for the order - so I guess it is working, at least for a kickstarter backer who is sticking with the original deal and got a coupon code for a heavy discount.

From the US.
