Alexvaras, you could also use Paterson reels for developing 70mm film, just arranged in slightly different configuration than for 35mm-120.
Yes, I read about it and saw the video above so I bought two reels of tbis brand and I shot one 116/616 film I had... it seems I'm very clumsy because it took me 30 min in the dark bag to out the roll inside of these invention... I said no more so when I got the 70mm film I looked for the easiest solution, a tank with a reel for 70mm, I would have waitied for the steel reel version but the film as already on its way

I had some good 70mm fun last Sunday. My wife and I have been cooped up like everybody else in the world, so we took a relaxing one hour drive and visited an impressive outdoor park not fall away. An old estate, with georgeous vintage gardens, lots in circular patterns. So I dusted off my 500C/M Hasselblad, and two lenses: The 30mm F3.5 Zeiss Distagon black T* fisheye, and the 100mm F3.5 black Zeiss T* Planar, one of my fave lenses.

I brought along two 70mm A70 Hasselblad film backs, both loaded with Kodak WL Surveillance Film, which is bank recording film, I believe. Mine is military surplus when even had the govt contract number pasted to the boxes. I had no idea how many exposures I had loaded into these two backs. One stopped running at 15, the other went to 31 exposures. So 46 6x6cm 70mm exposures in all.

70mm is so much fun. I think my fishy pix will be quite interesting; the gardens are truly impressive and fisheye is the perfect view for some.

Previously I have run those WL films in ADOX Borax MQ which is a D76 derivitive, than I learned about from TomA. WL Surveillance is a high speed recording film, alot like old Tri-X in that it is about 400/800 EI with great shadow detail, but can be pushed as high as 3200 according to some Kodak lit I recently data mined. Really beefey negs are the reult, which I happen to prefer.

I will reload the 70mm cartridges with about 24 exposures each, want to try more of my stock of films. Like my fresh 70mm HP5+ and my Kodak Plus-X 70mm Aerographic which is a lot like old Plus-X with slightly different spectral response.

Are there any commercial labs which still process 70mm?

Kodak 3F Basket Line 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

In the fix tank is the 70mm Dental XRay reels from NDT, along with the NDT dipstick. This part is simply made by NDT of PVC pipe and a plug. The NDT reels hold about 12 feet or so and load from the inside out, like a steel reel. I can run two twelve foot rolls of 70mm in the 8x10 Kodak 3F tank. Of course you could use plastic pails, too.

I cut into 12 exposure strips for drying and then into strips of four when Vue All neg filing.

I realize I set up my film developing graduates left to right too! :D
But that is because the sink is to the right of that spot of the counter.
It only really matters when I use trays to develop prints. If you have the tongs in your left hand, it is easier to pull the prints from right to left!

The drain and water inlets for the wash tank are in the the left side of my sinks. Simple as that and no big deal either way.
BTW Kodak literature for the 3F tanks show the same type of setup. Curious why you would care?

70mm DuPont Cronar High Speed Pan by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is 75 feet of unopened DuPont Cronar High Speed Pan expired in 1968. I have loaded about a 220 length to try it; the emulsion looks good not mouldy or anything like that.

It was 500 ASA film so it will be fun to see what comes of it; Could also be respooled into 616. I will load it in one of my Graflex RH50 4x5 Graphlock holders (film gate is 6x7cm).

Anybody here familiar with this film? This is very thick stock, I will say that.

Modified Paterson holds 2 70mm reels plus 35mm by Nokton48, on Flickr

I bought this Paterson System 4 medium sized tanks and modified it to take two 70mm 24 exposure rolls of film, plus also a roll of 35mm on top.

I used these tanks many years agho and they work great on my Unicolor Uniroller. Throw it on and walk away for "lazy slacker" processing.

Two rolls of 24 exposure 70mm B&W in good production for me.

70mm Kodak Surveillance 60 exp ADOX Borax MQ 11 min 21C by Nokton48, on Flickr

Hasselblad A70 film back comes through again

60 6x6 cm exposures on one roll. 70mm Kodak Surveillance film about shot at about EI 250. ADOX BORAX MQ 11 1/2 mins 21C. Kindermann 70mm tank and reel WOW it's heavy. SSSLLLOOOWWW to fill and dump, you have to tilt the tank at a 45 to fill it or it just blows all over. And balance a one gallon brown glass bottle at the same time. Not fun!

I cut these into strips of twelve to dry. Then into VueAll 70mm plastic print pages or those 120 pages from the UK also fit perfectly

I don't know of any service which will accept 70mm film. I have both some Tech Pan and some C-41 Aero film that I'd love to use.

Hasselblad A70 70mm Film Back "Rubber Wheels" arrived today from the Ukraine! They look good and I'll test them as I have time. Replacing these cogs with the "sprocket wheel" in the A70, allows you to run unperforated film in the Hasselblad 70mm Film Magazine. Which really opens up a lot of 70mm film options, there is a lot of unperforated out there. Top sides and bottom sides shown here.

Fun to see an old thread revived. I have an unopened can of 70mm HIE, about a dozen cans of Aerographic, one of Tech Pan, as well as a half dozen 70mm cartirdges of Tech Pan, 3 old cans of Macophot IR, a half dozen A70 nbacks, and a daylight-safe tank and reel for developing. But the tank is leaching plasticizer, unfortunately.

Any chance with parting from some of that stash? I cut 70mm down to 120. I wonder if there is a way to shoot 70mm in my Century Graphic 2x3.

Probably. It's offsite, and I'm out of town for about two weeks. I haven't used this site in years. Is there a way to PM? I can send you my email address.

A couple of questions about these 70mm plastic NDT reels. I have watched the trick of assembling two Paterson reels into a 70mm-capable reel, but I'm curious about the 70mm reels. What is their height and diameter? For example, could they fit into the larger diameter Nikor steel tank (about 4.25" ID, wider than a Paterson)? That may be wishful thinking, but it would be cool.

Second, has anyone found an low-overhead NDT supplier? I can find several suppliers that sell the reels for $16-20, which is reasonable, but then they tend to have very large minimum orders or expensive shipping - their market is industrial companies, not photo hobbyists.

Kingswood Gardens Hassy 30mm Distagon Fisheye 1 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Frog Pond, Kingswood Gardens, Mansfield Ohio. Kodak 70mm WL Surveillance Film, ADOX Borax MQ dev, Hasselblad 500C/M 30mm T* Distagon, Handheld exposure. Arista #2 8x10 Matte RC paper, Multigrade dev. Processed in 70mm Kindermann Dev Tank. Kodak Surveillance reminds me a lot of the older Tri-X emulsion. The sun was just out of the frame upper left corner. The circular garden works well with the Hassy Fishy lens.

This was a fun shoot!

I guess I’m sick, as well. I have the mint 70mm back for my Hassy bodies (to include a 500EL/M or even my 903 SWC). I do not have the killer Nikor reel or can to process all of that in!
