Grr not panoramic - panchromatic...

Survey DONE ... I was a little annoyed that they kept it to roll film and didn't specify how many rolls of 120 vs 35mm and what about sheet film?

Also how many "last month" well people in the new market don't just go out and buy every month, usually people shooting stock up because you have to order online and pay shipping so I order maybe once or twice per YEAR and store it... so at least there was how many per year... but it was still like ... DUH! lol At least they are trying

Hope they make 127!!!!

I asked for 126 and 127 and a maskless color negative film that could also be processed as reversal. Dont need the orange mask with scanners.

FilmFerrania survey, please fill: Dead Link Removed

Just gave them my 2c:

a) I love what you guys are doing, and very much hope you succeed.

b) You won't replace Ilford for my B+W (although I don't think you're trying, that's good).

c) Kodak won't be around much longer, I'm using Portra and Ektar until they go. If you can come out with replacements for Portra and Ektar, I'll switch to you guys straight away, I see more long-term stability from a smaller company than the yellow guys who can't afford to turn on their huge machines for less than a few million feet.

d) I'll keep paying the stupid prices for Velvia as long as it's available and there's space in my freezer. If you can come out with anything close I'll try some but can't switch straight away (my freezer is very full). Once RVP is gone I'll take whatever E6 I can get.

Please follow the Ilford business-model, not the Impossible, Lomography, Fuji, nor Kodak models. eg:

Ilford: Good social-media presence (eg Simon Galley on Apug), good communication, great customer support (eg they ran ALL their ULF orders this year, even the ones under the MOQ, despite probably making a small loss). Kudos for that.

Lomography & Impossible: Too expensive for what it is, and targeted at rich hipsters who can afford it. There are a lot of people like me who would love to shoot polaroids (even if just as tests for 4x5s), and once FP100 is gone I can't shoot anymore. They're good in that they're increasing visibility of the use of film, and they've picked their target market where they can make their money. But I'm not in their target market, and there are a whole lot of other pros and nutters who aren't. We don't need another Lomo, we need a colour Ilford.

Kodak & Fuji: Absolutely no communication whatsoever. Even worse is Fuji's system, eg of telling USA distributors that RVP is discontinued when it's still being made and sold in Japan. I still have to correct this when I see it on forums. Speculation is BAD, it reduces confidence in the whole industry and puts people off film altogether, and that's all the film-related forums are full of these days. Why should I fall in love with eg, Provia 400X when I know I won't be able to buy it once the current stocks dry up? I don't mind TX or TMX, but I don't know how much longer they'll be around. So I don't buy it anymore, it's PanF, FP4, HP5 and Delta for me from now on, I have TRUST in their longevity. Ditto Portra, Ektar, Pro160. I use them because it's all there is, as soon as I've found a suitable replacement (esp in 4x5) that I know will be around for a while, I'm switching and not looking back.

Please send a representative to join www.apug.org, possibly LFF and rangefinderforum too. Read all the love and kudos that Ilford gets every time they drop a price or introduce a new paper. Read all the negativity and cynical remarks every time Kodak goes up in price, or Fuji kills off another line. There is already a 38-page thread of love for you guys on APUG, you have the social-momentum already, just capitalise on it.
Please consider an Ilford-style ULF run each year, where we can order whatever size of sheet / roll film we want, even if the rest of the year is just 16/135/120 to keep the machines running.

The orange color is a result of a process to correct for shortcomings in the dyes formed by the colored couplers The process applies to scanning as well as optical printing.

Then why can Rollie make a non-orange base film?

I have a few comments if I may.
I don't believe it is their intention to compete with Harman. Nicola is keen in re-introducing some Ferrania B&W emulsions for cine formats, which Harman doesn't do. I believe he spook once about Panchro 30 as it was used by Pier Paolo Passolini.
He is a film maker. That's where is passion is.
Nicola has been in talks with Wittner and Adox. There is a report about it on Wittner's site.

Now, my take on this and a bit of wishful thinking:
Wittner is keen in working with Ferrania in pursuit of a continuous manufacture of colour and B&W cine formats. I bet that Adox is seeking a partner for the coating of future Adox films. Their present films are coated in partnership with others. They don't have a coating machine apart a small lab one from the former Agfa lab.
I hope they collaborate in partnership as their strengths and interests don't colide with each other.

It is good to see them engaging people in a survey and actually ask what formats photographers want to see being produced.
Very nice Nicola!

-) one can use other means to cope with those shortcomings

-) unmasked films of today are originally designed for purposes that have other requirements to colour rendering than our applications

Who is "our applications" because I for one hate C-41 specifically because of the orange mask, I can't just look at it and know it's good, the orange throws me off, it's ugly, it's one of the main reasons I use E-6 film instead...

With unmasked C-41 films you still would have "distorted" colours...

Any chance of getting some film that's Ferrari badged... maybe with the Ferrari logo? :D

Just scratch off the "a" and one leg of the "r".

Scan and inkjet for proof instead.

How do slides have perfect colors without a mask?

Agfa does maskless negatives today. CN-200 has beautiful colors.

It allows dual use from a single stock.

Steady! Nuke the "orange" mask at the preview scan step so you have a better, 'user-friendly' representation of colours. It's only a mask, nothing that will bite you on the bum. E6 emulsions have their own demons. I am more troubled by heavy blue casts on E6 emulsions from shooting in bright sun, for dire wont of better conditions. That sort of cast is very difficult to neutralise and 'see through' to the colour. Thankfully where I am now, in the cold and musty scrub by a beautiful creek with a few chutes and waterfalls, it's cool, grey, calm and overcast — just perfect for RVP. Portra 160 is next in line for Pentaximus to chew on...

Slides have more colour errors than masked C41.
Masked C41 is not wonderful.

You are not being critical.

I feel like I just had words said to me...

You're crazy do you know how long that takes ... Hours... When I can take 2 seconds and see it on a slide or B&W negative...

Silliness...

I don't see blue unless I under expose my E-6.

Except blue skies

C-41 is more colour correct than E-6. Orange mask has a lot to do with it.

What are you talking about "color errors"?

Because of the nature of the materials available to us (primarily the dyes, couplers and pigments involved), a system involving a negative film and a subsequent positive final result (print or transparency) has a greater capacity to render colours accurately than a system that produces a positive result directly.

The orange mask is an important part of such a negative - positive system. There are other approaches, but the orange mask is probably the most effective.

If you get rid of the mask, the colour isn't as good.
