DF96 cannot fog film.

Because fogging film is from the film being exposed to light.

Actually, there are chemical foggants. The example that we are most familiar with being the foggants used for reversal processing, in place of re-exposure to light.
But I doubt that is what is happening here.
Of course, a highly active developer can tend to accentuate existing fog.
Tin in solution can fog film, but I haven't any idea how you'd get that in Df96 -- even if you mixed or stored it in a soldered container, there's nothing in the monobath that could pull the metallic tin from the solder into solution. Sulfur compounds can fog halide, as can ammonium ion, but the fixer component in Df96 (at least the more economical and more storable dry-shipped version) has little ammonium in it if any -- I could see the sodium thiosulfate crystals in one bag, and even if there was ammonium chloride also in the mix, there isn't enough ammonium there to have much fogging effect (as witness all the films processed by Huss and many others in this stuff without issue).

Overall, the simplest and most likely explanation for film that was "fogged by Df96" is that the film was fogged in handling, most likely either during bulk loading (if that was done) or in loading it into the developing tank.

Thanks! Pepe actually normally smiles but he is now getting annoyed at me pointing a camera at him all the time!

I think he is thinking - "when are you going to switch to a more mainstream developer"?

Hi, I have been following this tread for a short while but only just today decided to register as a member. (I have made my intros at the "introduce yourself") I took this photo using Fomapan 200, 120 format (6x6) on a Hasseblad 500c, developed using the Df96 @ 80f / 27c for 4mins and 15sec being the sixth roll - constant agitation using the "twizzle" stick, paterson tank, filled to 650ml + (I experienced uneven development at 500ml) and was advised to fill the tank to the brim and agitate as one pours in the Df96. I noticed these streak marks on Frame # 3. I will post frame # 4 which does not have any visible streaks (at least not to me). Any guidance welcome.

Incidentally, I spoke to CineStill Customer service and they advised, where possible, constant agitation.....

I've been using Df96 for about eight rolls in total, and I'm starting to get the hang of it and my own workflow. So far, I really like it. The big picture is development is based upon temperature, so put the film in at your known temp...you can't overdevelop!

Other things to like about DF96...no mixing (so it's always at full strength), usable at normal indoor temperatures. I usually warm mine up from 72F by soaking it in a sink of hot water for 3-4 minutes.

It is by far the easiest developer I've ever used. Oh, and the Lab-Box makes everything else fast and easy too.

I digitize with a Canon R5 and the new RF-mount Venus Laowa 100mm f2.8 2X macro APO lens. The scans are tack sharp at f11 and after cropping the rebate, result in generally 33-35 megapixel images.

I could NOT get better resolution and enlargement capability using any wet printing method...period.
