So, exactly what is the practical difference between the first coating and the way the film will eventually be made?

The first coating was our first run on the big machine.
We undershot our target by about 1/2 to 1 F-Stop so we started touching the emulsions again and this is the reason for the current delay.

The film is usable and not worse than 5 year old APX out there but base fogg will be lower and speed will be increased in the final product.

Kind regards,

Mirko

Is anyone in NA carrying the First Release material that you know of?

I did followup on the sources you gave me in Europe, but it is prohibitively expensive to ship small quantities for an individual. Just as you predicted.

Michael

Michael,

the film is sold below our production costs to regain at least some of the money tied up in the materials used to manufacture it.
Thus we can´t put it through a distribution chain.
You are welcome to order the film straight of Fotoimpex at our usual fixed shipping fee of 20 USD per parcel to the US.

Ofcourse this only makes sense once you take a few more rolls....

Thanky you,

Mirko

Mirko,

Where in the web store is it? I can't find the film there anywhere. Do you have a link?

Thanks,

- Thomas

I can't find it either, but Mirco stated in his german forum that sales of that film will start in the second half/end of September. I guess it will show up then.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy to make the shipping costs more palatable? Of course, redistribution shipping once it got to one of our houses may very well eat up the savings on shipping from Europe. Kind of a Catch-22 there.

I went on the store and found the ISO 200 110 film that was there. I would place an order but with shipping, the order came to about $60 USD for on 4 rolls! I simply can't pay that for 110 film right now.

Not really in a hurry to get it, so no thanks. I was just curious to see how much it might cost, etc.

BTW, I know this elephant has kind of been hanging out in the corner, but Mirko, is APX 400 going to be the initial market test emulsion and then afterward are there plans for APX 100? I believe that most APX-heads want the 100 speed, however I'm still open to playing with either remanufactured emulsion. Thanks for the huge effort and dedication to getting this unique film back up on it's feet.

Clayne,

we are making APX 400 now because there simply are no Agfa banktrupcy leftovers of this material. 80% of the market is still 35mm. With APX 100 beeing sold below 1,50 EUR / piece from infinite sources we can´t touch this film until this situation changes.

But yes, there are plans to remanufacture APX 100

Kind regards,

Mirko

By confectioning, you are talking about getting the film into the cassettes? Also, is there still going to a color 110 film?

Patrick

We are talking about:

-trimming 35mm pancakes to 32mm in ultra high precision
-slitting 32mm in 2x16mm
-apllying the unique 110 perforation
-remanufacturing the cassette body, cover and spool
-remanufacturing the backing paper, choping the backing paper, cutting out the edge so the film stripe gets caught after the last frame
-spooling the backing paper together with the film into the feeding compartement
-attaching the end of the backing paper to the spool
-welding the casette shut
-packing the product
-labeling the product

Not trivial but dooable.

Yes colour, 200 ASA, B/W later.

Kind regards,

Mirko

Is that all?

Sometimes it's hard to imagine what amount of work goes into making a roll of film.

Keep up the fabulous work, Mirko.

Wow! That's quite a process. I believe I had read that the cassettes themselves are going to have to be assembled by hand...is that true? I really appreciate you guys over there at ADOX! You make some great products that others have dumped out the window. I don't want to sound pushy but what is the current projected date for this happening? What if you just used un-perforated 16mm film? Would you happen to know if this will be available in the US at Freestyle? Sorry for all of my questions but thanks so much for answering.

I would love to buy the APX 400 in 126 Instamatic cartridges. I know it's a lot to wish for.

Is it possible to offer 100ft bulk rolls of 35mm Non-Perforated? At least we can spool up our own.

Thanks Adox !!

Mirko, it is great that apx400 is being introduced! I guess this is similar to Tmax. How good is iso push ability up to 3200? (with D76 and rodinal)

I was meaning to ask you about other alternative. I think CHS 100 is very interesting, how about produce iso 400 of this? Is it possible? It would be nice to have choice similar to Trix which offers easy iso push ability with look of typical grains.

Anyway, Im excited for new things!

Unless there's been a huge breakthrough/improvement in emulsion technology, 120 APX 400 doesn't compare very favorably with Kodak TMax400(TMY-2).

It depends on what one wants in their image. It's also nice to have choices. One day (soon?) the big yellow K will decide they don't want to sell TMY-2 anymore and we will be glad there's APX 400.

I'm with R gould. I'm quite excited for any kind of new analog product that is not strictly lomo

I don't know about this new stuff, but APX400 in the old days was nothing like TMAX, which is why I loved it so
