Spotmetering, especially with the Pentax, is fast fast fast. You can't even punch buttons that fast. The only thing that slows me down a few more seconds is the need to pull out my pocket magnifying glass or put on reading glasses; but I have to do that even to use a cell phone, or type on a screen like I'm doing right now. But if you enjoy the challenge of running a hurdles event instead straight down the lane, that's your prerogative. ... whatever we find fun and rewarding has its benefits. Yet there is one thing in your approach I strongly agree with .... you're simply not accustomed to spot metering. No crime. Good luck on your own approach, and hopefully others will gravitate toward it too, rewarding your effort.
And while many "Zonie Zombies" do logically choose spot meters, these were engineered to be highly versatile, including for the motion film trade, which still uses them.
