Oh dear, I can't comment on neopan 400 in stand dev. I'd not have thought to try it, frankly. I think if you do normal development in perceptol or xtol, you'll be very satisfied with acutance, but the 50s look you refer to, I can't help you there. Maybe hp5+ is the better choice for that...
Well in 6x7 format you'd be lugging a lot of slow glass to get to that field of view. And furthermore, the top shutter speed on your rb is 1/400. So... the lens isn't fast and with that slowish top shutter speed, you're pretty tightly constrained. Finally, if you consider that we're talking...
It's okay. Hood it and it's okay.
A 350 KL would be a much better choice, and frankly, that price is right on edge of what I'd pay for the 360. I mean, I have one and would part with it for roughly that price.
Trying to remember the last time I used the 360... I did some tele outdoor stuff...
Shooting pinhole with colour film is going to get you into some serious chromatic aberration. But anyway, why not shoot something fast enough to avoid reciprocity issues. I would suggest just about any colour 160 or 400 film.... rating it at a half stop or so slower than box speed. E.g. fuji...
This is a gem! Such a "simple" subject but somehow the light and tone rendering are so special. I suppose it is because the surrounding leaves are frosted (?) that these few centered ones look so special. Great find indeed!
Rollei Digibase CN 200
I see other interesting possibilities with this film, since it is maskless c41:
*use negs as slides -> ilfochrome or scan
*x-process E6
*maybe it'd make a decent multilayer panchromatic b&w film??? Just normal b&w process?!
Sadly the format is only 120 and smaller...
Robert, one critique I have of those two negatives I posted is that they aren't quite abstract enough for my liking, but I am workign on it. Those two were done with normal plain-Jane neg film, fuji pro s and pro h as I recall. So they were scanned, the scan software removed the mask, and...
Yep, I don't see much wisdom in taking chances on gear now; you can get a whole hassie or mamiya or bronnie or pentax etc. system together for $1000 or less.
Overall though, I would admonish a newcomer to make a comprehensive list of all the lenses and peripherals that he/she will want. Not...
Mark this is interesting, that you specifically target opposing colours. As I think I mentioned elsewhere, I have become interested in negative colour... unmasked negative colour... and part of the attraction is the way the colours contrast with each other. I will post an example from an...
I haven't really settled into any particular genre, but for some time I have been thinking about scale cues and trying unusually high perspectives and so forth. I have a 20+ ft tripod (actually it's a ham radio mini-tower :D )
Colour is definitely what I have in mind, and longish formats...
Moi? Pastel?! I need to chew on that for a while ;) Hadn't thought of myself that way. Especially since most of my colour work is on slide. But I see your point about contrast of tones. The images mark posted certainly make more of a statement about colour combinations.
More and more, I am finding that music relates best to my (more abstract) colour photography. I wrote a bit about that in a recent blog. Here is a youtube clip that says a lot of what I think about the relationship between colour and sound:

Bruce, I doubt that fluctuations in the UV/xray wavelengths measured from space imply any change in the visible spectrum on terra firma. But I'd better let the astronomers amongst us comment on that. Anyway, local atmospheric conditions are always going to be far more important (as Steve and...
Thanks for the data and the sensible summary, Henning.
Ron, Mark, the only Fuji slide film with which I have seen any important colour casts are the old velvia 50 and provia 100f. I use neither, and there are plenty of other options in the current Fuji lineup.
I still await Matt's scanned...

Matt that must have been a reference to "painting by numbers..." ;)
This is glorious. Beautiful colour. Excellent composition too, of course. An instant favourite of mine.
Again, for pricing, I would refer to KEH. Their prices are very competitive and will give you a good idea of what to expect.
RE: digital back, there are two backs that can go on the mamiya 645 systems, the Zd and the ZDb, priced at about $7000+. They are fairly highly regarded, but newer...
Look at KEH. Compare prices. But that price you found is not unusual for a good, older rb kit. If you can afford $500 then you can do considerably better though, IMHO.
The rub on the bronnies, in my opinion, is that they have been out of production for quite a while and the used market isn't quite so good, consisting mostly of well-used equipment with few options to get mintier stuff. (Consider that with the rb system, you can get brand-spanking-new MC lenses...
