I prefer medium format and usually travel with it, but if I have to travel light or will not have the luxury to dwell at will when I would like, I will take 35mm.
Monthly club contests are a good way to get evaluation ones photographic work, but one should take such comments balance by each judges [or commenter's] background and expertise.
I see no reason to skip Tri-X. I get good consistent results from Tri-X that I can depend on. On the other hand, Tri-X does not work well in the infrared range and for that I use Rollei IR 400.
How about only opening the package when all the contents will be mixed for a full batch of chemical? No PET plastic waste bottles. It is good for for the environment.

I look at each photograph separately. While a name such as a name such as Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, or Henri Cartier-Bresson will have me automatically comparing to each's other work, that lack of a name will not cause me to look with less diligence or interest.
Start with replacing the light seals and then let us know whether or not the problem was solved. We will continue to help you with the light leak if the seals were not enough.
