I had a similar problem years ago. I do not remember the details, but there is a rod that resets the frame number when the film is removed from the back. Samys Camera took care of the adjustment.
Only freeze film that is still sealed in the factory packaging. If the packaging has been open the put the film in a ZipLock bag, push the air out and store in the refrigerator, not the freezer. I have been freezing my film since 2003.
Time Machine will do automatic backups but you can improve the safety factor by locating Time Machine on its own dedicated drive. That way if your main drive goes bad, Time machine is isolated from the main drive. I do that and have done that since 2000.
