This is very important, thanks Helge for saying this.
I'll add that you need "electronic empathy" too. Many repair people know very little electronics, thus can't solve electronic problems (that would be rather easy to solve for the electronics-savvy). They say "oh, it's an electronic...
I have used the FD system for the last 22 years and have had no stuck lens.
On the other hand i never carry my cameras to the beach. Sand can cause many problems in lenses and cameras, not just with FDn lenses but with many kinds of lenses and cameras.
Sand is very, very bad for your...
remove the 3 screws on the perimeter of the base, nearest to the camera body and just pull the lens out. This will allow you to remove the lens with no problems.
In 6x7 i had the 65 and 90 focal lengths (RB system) and didn't found them "very close", the 65 clearly gives an impression of space.
However an 80mm lens is already a wideangle in 6x7...
If you prefer the 35mm lens in 135 format, perhaps you should get the 65 and sell the 80. 65+150 sounds...
Well i can't fault this reasoning, RB/RZ are indeed very big. And the trigger handle on the bronica... I like it but of course i'd expect the Pentax integrated grip to be better.
This also means you don't miss fast flash sync speeds...
If the Orwo marketing people follow the "If you are interested in exploring this new film, you are just going to have to ignore these crappy-looking scans we're posting here, order a few rolls and see for yourself." marketing strategy, I guarantee you they will sell zero rolls.
I mean, if i'm...
Wow, I loved my RB67 (had three of them), wanted to get a RZ...
And now i own three Bronica 6x4.5 cameras (ETRSi and ETRS) which I totally love and essentially are like a scaled-down RZ67...
What was wrong with those cameras??
Um... i'd say the Bronica ETR series with the Speed grip and prism is as comfortable, Or more. And surely the more advanced Contax 645 MF SLRs should be more comfortable...
My Pentax 67 is also very comfortable with the small 90/2.8 lens,a right hand grip, and the chimney viewfinder. Weight is...
Canon took the 135mm lenses seriously and thus redesigned them many times.
For the f3.5 versions:
FL 135/3.5 is optically the same as FD 135/3.5 chrome nose and the first S.C version, then in mid 1970s it changes from 4/3 design to 4/4 design. This later design is carried over to the FD new...
I second the suggestion for the C220.
As for lenses, the ones with the best reputation are the 80/2.8, 105/3.5 DS, and 180/4.5 Super. Although my 65/3.5 was an excellent lens and my favorite one. I had the 55, 65, 80, 105 (early tessar version), 135, and 180 (super and non super).
The 135 is...
Thanks for the info on the governor, very interesting.
As for the reallysilly dark slide protection, i refuse to call it a "professional" feature. Contrary to the popular opinion, I don't hold the engineering of the people at Victor Hasseblad AB in any higher regard than the other pro...
I mentioned this on a camera repair professionals' forum and a few people noted this (fan escapements) is something that is sometimes found on clocks. So it was watchmaking practices. Lol at your comments on air density, and in theory you're correct!!
And here it is!! Part #9 is the fan...
Maintenance can also make a difference. For example the foam bumpers need to be renewed before considering a camera to have too much of a mirror shock.
You're very kind. I was thinking of you when writing this post since you're such a Hasselblad fan. And in all confidence i say that i'd love to own a 1000F with a Kodak Ektar lens. In fact i did find a 1000F some years ago for a really cheap price and passed on it simply because I recalled it...
Yes, they have different spectral response.
Selenium meters are supposedly the ones with the best spectral response. Or so i've read.
CdS meters have response weighted to green (if i recall correctly) unless some compensating filter (which would reduce their sensitivity) is used.
SPDs have...
Most regrets i had with the Nikon F3.
I've bought a Nikon F3 camera three times in my life -- three times I bought a F3, to then find out i don't like it and thus sell it, to later buying a F3 again because it looks so cool and it's so desirable by everybody.
I have never been completely happy...
Well, finally it happened -- a Kiev 88 arrived to me for routine maintenance/service.
I had never seen one in real life, only through the web, articles, etc. In general, and for many technical reasons, i plainly refuse to service any soviet camera, even though I would love to own some of them...
Yes, but on the other hand it seems to have been launched with big fanfare. I mean, the first 6x7 Pentax was named "Pentax 220"; there's the "Linhof 220", a stunning camera; how about the mamiya C220 being named because of the use of 220 film? I guess it was intended to replace 220. I think...
