Pen EE lens on a Pen F?

You'll find that the Pen D is more compact, lighter, and quieter than your Pen F. And has a brighter viewfinder. And a light meter. You know what to do.

What to watch out for in a Nikon S series?

I don't like Fed or Zorkis, really. And leicas are way overpriced. As for the LTM cameras, i think most have cloth shutters except for maybe the latest Voigtlander made-in-japan cameras. As for the focus compatiblity issues, my experience (as a camera tech) is that if you use russian lenses...

What to watch out for in a Nikon S series?

This week i have been working on a 1960 Kiev rangefinder and it's the machine of the devil. I was less than impressed with the materials quality. Yesterday i simply called it off -- the camera goes straight to the parts bin. Note that i'm a Contax IIa/IIIa user and i'm happy with these...

A NEW (as of 2022) ISO 200 COLOR NEGATIVE FILM FROM ADOX

Key points i extract, that I think are very relevant: - Partly manufactured in-house - Specifically designed for lower production costs: Sounds logical to me, if they have less layers, then it requires less coating passes = less time and expenses to coat a master rolll - It will enable you to...

    Quality comparable to Hasselblad Flextight?

Yes you can use a fluid mount (and adjust its height), however the improvement for the V850 isn't too big compared to correctly adjusted film holder height. This doesn't surprise me at all, coming from the enlarging generation i find fluid mounting (and glass holders) to be a bit overrated, and...

    Quality comparable to Hasselblad Flextight?

There are plenty of comparisons on the internet out there, this is old news, nothing new here. Yeah you can fluid mount on your flatbed etc etc. This won't compensate for its mediocre optics. V850 isn't a good deal better than the lower models, when compared to other means of scanning like...

    Quality comparable to Hasselblad Flextight?

However there IS a difference. The V600 will add artifacts like smearing of high-contrast edges and some chromatic aberration too. The former can be compensated for by increased sharpening: this will also increase the presence of noise, dirt, etc. Garbage in --> Garbage out. These artifacts...

    Quality comparable to Hasselblad Flextight?

I don't know really which point you're trying to make. It has almost nothing to do with sensors. The optics and precision on those Epson flatbeds, ALL of them, are incapable of capturing what's on the film. That is, reproducing the image down to the grain level without adding artifacts. A...

Sold SOLD: Contax IIA 35mm Rangefinder & Accessories

Yes and no. (Camera tech here). The camera isn't difficult at all to diassemble for service. Rather easy. Something like cleaning the rangefinder glasses or cleaning the escapement (so the slow speed work again) is also very easy to do and I'd say even you could DIY. However, getting the top...

    Quality comparable to Hasselblad Flextight?

If you're using an Epson flatbed, you're discarding information. A big amount of information. So, don't use it when you need to fully capture what is on the negative. For web usage they're just fine. The optics on those scanners introduce smearing and chromatic aberration, that then is...

In your opinion, what are the best modern 35mm film SLRs ever built?

Canon's pro EOS cameras were the bread-and-butter of most pro photographers for many years. Before the digital era. They were a major player and left Nikon behind in the AF field, for many years.

A NEW (as of 2022) ISO 200 COLOR NEGATIVE FILM FROM ADOX

To research you need to do test coatings. If you can sell the result of your test coating, I guess it can offset costs significantly. Isn't it? I mean, is there something really suspicious here?

A NEW (as of 2022) ISO 200 COLOR NEGATIVE FILM FROM ADOX

Source of this claim? Maybe only the smallest manufacturers, maybe Adox, but "most"? Ferrania did their own synthesizing, in fact they had an entire building for that that was then sold off and is now known as "ferrania technologies" and now only produces medical stuff. I'd be very surprised...

    Canon FTb Quick Load Issue

I see many people point to the pads. However, what I would check first is to verify that the sprocket is moving when you advance the film. Because the film is moved by the force of the main sprocket next to the film gate. NOT by the pads, the pads don't apply the force required for the film to...

A NEW (as of 2022) ISO 200 COLOR NEGATIVE FILM FROM ADOX

Isn't Color Mission I a "real color film"? Ok, it was old production. But it shows correct colors. But ADOX Color Implosion was more recent production, and it is a color film. Not true color, but shows they are able to produce multilayer chromogenic film. I understand they have former...

Kodak Signet 35 / Synchro 300 Shutter Hangs

Yes, the shutter needs to be fully stripped down, down to the shutter blades, then completely removed of the oil. Then oil applied specifically where it needs it, with proper oil like Moebius 9030. Many parts in a leaf shutter should NOT be lubed, it depends on the shutter.

This is not good advice, sorry. Because we're talking about a shutter and shutters can also be temporarily ruined if oil gets in the wrong place.

Minox 35GL/GT/etc Mamiya RZ67 Mamiya RZ67 You want a Mamiya 67 with the weight of a Minox 35GL F6: Too expensive F100: questionable materials choice (door latch breaks, etc). Not compatible with pre-AI lenses = insulting Nikon's own history.[/b]

ADOX acquires Ilford´s (Switzerland) medium scale coating line

Note that a positive-positive (slide to print) system has inherent problems that can't really be overcome due to the nature of the system. Mainly, the contrast range of the slide is too high, this creates a ton of problems. Photo Engineer had a post on this. There are big reasons the cinema...

In your opinion, what are the best modern 35mm film SLRs ever built?

Mostly because they're insanely fast. Instead of asking for a 35/1.4L you can ask Canon to create a 35/3.5L and I can bet you it will be a tiny lens, probably a pancake lens.
