I find there are people who say other people do things (or buy certain cameras) for "bragging rights" or "status". But I don't ever find any examples of people who do that.

Who are these braggarts? Where are they? Who are they bragging to? And in what way does it elevate their status? Do they belong to a club?

Maybe you don't get out enough.

I get out plenty.

So you are not bragging when you say you can do get on fine with any camera, film or digital. That's just a factual statement, right?

I like taking pictures. And I don't give a flying f##k if the camera is digital or analog.

And there are slews of Leica users (wearers?) who fit the boasting/status profile.

A couple of concerns about that statement:

(1) did you learn that through statistical analysis? Where are these people? Point them out.

(2) why would you care? Does it have something to do with you and your liking of photography? Did they tease you?

People like to do things they consider "cool" - even if they suck at them. And people like to get the "best" things - even if they can't really use them. Most people don't need an audience for such actions. They are capable of doing them all on their own.

And - really - slinging an M6 around your neck is boasting to who? All those people who don't know what it is?

It was only a matter of time before this thread, which was about

'those of you who do it, why do you do it?'

was taken over by the usual

'Just dropped by to let everyone know I don't do it, I find it silly/useless/a way to boast, and I don't understand or refuse to understand those who enjoy doing it'.

Wow. Some raw nerves out there.

I am not sure what kind of reaction you were expecting.

"A lot of the appeal of film photography is about boasting rights, trendiness and stubbornness."

Really?

Do you really need to be so disparaging of other people?

Can't you just leave us to enjoy our hobby?

Next time you see people having a discussion about why their like their hobby, and you personally do not like their hobby, instead of butting in to say that "a lot of the appeal of [your hobby] is boasting, trendiness, and stubbornness", please consider just scrolling.

Scrolling to the next post is always a strong option.
