Very nice. I've got my eye on one of these. Can you elaborate on the usage of lighter fluid please? I've heard about using it to clean a camera but not sure where to use it and how.

I use rubbing alcohol, cotton buds and toothpicks to clean cameras. Lighter fluid to clean aperture blades, shutters and sticky parts.

I posted what I did in the repair thread.

I just picked up a pair of R8/Double 8mm (call it what you like) Carena movie cameras made in Liechtenstien. Very neat design with a spring wound motor in the hand grip and very nice glass on both models. The Auto Carena has a Schneider-Krenznach Xenoplan 13mm, f1.8 lens and the Zoomex sports a P. Angenieux K2 7.5 to 35mm f1.8 zoom lens. Pretty impressive glass for a pair of lowly Regular 8mm movie cameras!

These cameras were apparently marketed under several brand names in various countries around the World.

The history behind these cameras is very tortured and involves Porst, the STAZI and a multitude of ups and downs according to this website (in German).

Of course, I have no idea how reliable the information is on that website, but it makes for interesting reading!

They appear to be functional but in dire need of cleaning of the optical path. The Angenieux lens has an internal lens element that has turned yellowish and the viewfinders are very tiny and dim/dirty. The both used a mercury battery, Mallory RM 1R 1.5v, that appears to be available in alkaline form as the PC 1A. We shall see if the meters work. It will be a shame if the exposure system does not work, as the aperture appears to be electronic and they will be purely display cameras if the electronics are bad.

I'm not suprised at all, and actually I would say that most double-8 cine cameras are top-grade gear combined with excellent lenses. It was basically stuff for wealthy families. It was mostly with super8 that crappy plasticky cameras and bottle-bottom lenses for the masses were introduced. I am the proud owner and regular user of a Bolex-Paillard D8 and not only all sides of the camera shout "quality", but it has a triplet of lenses by Schneider-Kreuznach that for craftmanship and building precision rival the best large format primes (perhaps at the point of overkilling, considered the limits of 8mm format).

I don't know if you ever spotted it, but there's a "cine" section here on this board; unfortunately for some reason it was implemented as a "users group" rather than a standard forum, so it's a bit awkward to use, it doesn't alert you the usual way if someone replies to one of your posts etc., so it's not as lively as the rest of the board. However, you may want to post some specific messages there.

Maybe we could convince Sean to set up a tiny section of the board for motion picture film cameras.

I found this Rolleiflex 3.5 C, Model 4Kc at a local estate sale, thrown in a filthy bag with accessories, a wild tie-dye scarf and tumbling around with several Yankee Slide trays. After cleaning it for about 6 hours, getting the shutter working again and removing fungus from the rear element, it is quite lovely... except for the front lens element. It looks like someone was photographing in a sand storm and then put about 10 thumb prints on the front lens element and stored it for about 30 years. Arrggg...

The light meter works, I still have to pull the hood and clean the focus screen, but that shouldn't take long.

I might have a dedicated portrait Rolleiflex with built-in diffusion. Seriously doubt it can be used in bright sunlight, even with a lens shade. However, only testing will tell how bad the light scatter will be and if it will render the lens useless for high-key scenes.

I was talking to another photographer the other day about how I really don't like the square format.

I have a Minolta Zoom 8 that runs like a top and never gives me problems. The only other cine camera I have in usable condition is a Mansfield Holiday II that is the same as my Grandmothers camera. I'll be investing in 16mm soon since Super 8 is more expensive to shoot than 16mm plus the major bump in quality that goes along with it. I do have a Super 8 camera that I picked up cheap enough and it works but I'll only run a couple rolls through it before selling it off. Just want to try the format out for fun.

I am thinking about getting a Bolex 8mm since I do enjoy working with the format and can develop it at home.

I picked up a Kodak Jiffy Six-20, the art deco style. It is in great shape and came in an EKC leather case that is in very good shape, just needs a bit of cleaning. I did a quick cleaning on the lens and loaded up a roll of respooled 620. Itching to see how the photos look but it will probably take a while to shoot the roll. Once I have the first roll done I'll take it apart to do a better cleaning on that lens.

My latest is another of a camera I owned years ago and regret selling. I was on my local facebook marketplace and someone was selling a Nikon F100 body with battery grip. I picked it up yesterday and currently have it loaded with ektachrome 100.

Wow, me too! A recent acquisition -- an F100 -- and I've got a fresh roll of Ektachrome 100 I'll be putting through it.

Great camera. I have "only" three AF Nikons -- an F4, an N80, and this F100. I've put only one roll of film through it so far, but I definitely like it more than the other two.

A nice and very well made (as often for cameras from this brand) big folding, an ICA Lloyd-Cupido 540, for 122 film (3,5 x 5,5) or 9 x 12 cm plate, with a rear (included) ground glass.
The serial number, E1, inside the back, makes the camera even more uncommon and means it was made during WW1 period or perhaps just before (first months of 1914).

And an other well made, and rare folding, a 6x9 (120) film and plate camera, by the French maker Lemaire, in ~1930.
In metal, nearly as heavy as the big Super Ikonta 6x9 531/2.
With a quality photo lens, a Flor from Berthiot.
A special feature among others : if you turn the small reflex viewfinder, an internal gear wheel automatically rotates the frame.in the right position.

Coworker sold me a Canon FTb QL today. Came with an eveready case, 50mm f1.4 Canon lens, 80-210 Zykkor (?), Vivtar 2800 flash and case. He asked for $15, Gave him $20.

Needs light seals.

Four FTbs? Well, why not, I suppose? They're great cameras. The FTb is one of my all-time favorites -- it was my first "real" camera. What an unbelievably good deal -- especially if everything works.

Just picked up this 35mm Ansco Super Regent (AKA AGFA Super Solinette in Europe). The focus helicol was frozen, the shutter sticky, the lenses cloudy with fungus on rear element and just generally dirty.

Now she's ready for another 70 years of service. Love these coupled rangefinders; they are so easy to service, use and are great performers.

Now I have to re-stitch the leather case...

Great, solid, loud beast of a camera with wonderful Nikkor glass! Enjoy it!

My latest: a pair of Nikons. An F w/ unmetered prism and an F2 w/ DP-1 “photomic” prism.

Both are users, not pretty shelf queens, but they’re both mechanically sound. The meter has issues on the F2 but the seller has assured me he’ll make it right.
