It seems to me that some people made a lot of bad decisions in Minolta management, because if you're as innovative as that brand, you gotta try too hard to perish like they did.

Agree. My friend used a X-570 while i used an AE-1 back on my student day. The X-570 looked tacky and plasticky... but it was a pleasure, a joy to use, to be honest. (They should have kept the classic '60s Minolta logo!)

There are so many great minoltas. Alas, I already have complete Canon FD, EF, Nikon and Pentax systems, so trying minolta would be tol much.

I never had a 700, but i do have the 570...and THAT camera is why i am selling (trying to) my Canon A-1 and AE1-P. :smile:

I have (probably) shot the A-1 more than any other camera. It works fine, takes just as good a picture as anything else....it's juts that i prefer the way the 570 functions.
Other than a CLA a few years back, the A-1 has worked flawlessly. The AE1-P is also a quality camera. I have too many, so something has to go. The A-Series are going for pennies these day. Somebody will get a good deal when they buy mine.....:sad: :smile:

The only thing that irritates me is that AE-1 is more popular and expensive than A-1. Shutter priority mode is a torture. Otherwise, each late 70's manual camera is as good as any other.

I use the European equivalent X-570 (which was the last MF minolta, being introduced after the X-700) and i too find it an exceptional camera.
 
I hadn't bought a camera for more than twenty-five years because II was happy with my New F1s, but in the last year or so I had a relapse and bought two Canon F1n bodies they were in such great condition and so reasonably priced I couldn't resist them.

My two latest purchases was my first Minolta, an XG-M with a 45mm F2, and then I added a 50mm F1.4
MD ROKKOR X. Next up was a clean Nikon FE. A nice surprise was the FE's auto exposure feature which makes for easy night shots.
 
The Werra 5 turned up. Nothing online mentioned the adjustable dioptre on the viewfinder.

I had the standard 820 with the Ross Xpres. Excellent build quality, however I couldn't make the lens be critically sharp consistently. I tried re-aligning the focus scale with regard to the true focus plane, but I could never have good success. It might be due to lack of film flatness or film plane consistency.

(Or does anyone know better? By then cine cameras already got such.)


I got the the first model Werra. Designwise the most interesting as least cluttered.
But its finder is just shit.

The circular viewfinder unscrews a little, when it's tight the image is blurry (I'm shortsighted), unscrewed a bit it's sharp, then gets blurry again as it unscrews further. Then stops unscrewing any further so I don't think I'm trying to remove it.
Actually I think the seller got it wrong and it's a 4.

Unless I misunderstand the subject here, the Leica III and other Barnack Leicas have an adjustable diopter.

On my III, from 1934, the adjustment is a lever at the eyepiece; on my IIIf, the adjustment is a lever near the rewind knob.

I stand corrected.
I googled for that but found no hint, Then I read some Leica manuals, nothing. Only by your reply I found that lever in photos in the manual. It is indicated as such only in those photos.

I have several ensigns.all with te Xpress lens, and all are very sharp, as with any folder, the trick is to stop down to at least 8,to 16, which with the Xpress lens is the optimum working apertures, with 11 being the best, I must have 6 cameras with this lens and, like the Tessar Skoper Ect they need stopping down to get the best out of them,

I bought a couple of M42 lenses from a member of another forum and he threw in the camera bodies for free! The Mamiya is working but the meter isn't and the other two need CLAs. Still, not too shabby for the price of two lenses!
He threw in an extra lens, too. An extremely nice guy!
