Since I grew up in Braunschweig, the choice of old cameras is obvious.

My oldest is a 1934 Rolleicord TLR. Built like a tank and still shooting today.

To become proficient and minimize costs, yes. To merely enjoy one aspect of the photographic hobby (viz. experiencing and enjoying fine equipment), Nikon, Canon, and others can coexist in one's collection.

I started with the Nikon F3/T and have appreciated all the Nikon models from the S2, F, F2, to the F4s. They each have their strong points and unique charm.

Before that, my only Canon was an AE-1P. I have since discovered the Canon EF. I think I will enjoy these two above all other FD-mount Canons.

Then there are the 35+ other cameras...

I put a F2AS, an XK,a F-1N and a OM-4 on a shelf together and there has not been a fight yet. But the D810 was snickering so its on the shelf with the 500 C/M and the Leica R-5.

as for a the Ford vs chivy thing its been long been settled since Ford can run a car company on its own while government motors can't.

Two shelves to the left and one shelf down the koran and the bible are leaning on each other, also in harmony. So far no fires or weird noises.
I do not own any Canons so I'm safe anyway

Exactly the same for me. It will replace the plasticky Digital and AF bodies forever I hope!

Ricoh KR-5 with the Pentax 1:2 50mm lens. Came free with a darkroom lot. I didn't notice it in one of the boxes until I started unpacking things when I got it home.

These are very nice: good lens and very compact.
If I remember correctly, there was an item with the shutter. Should it be cocked before retracting the lens, or not? I'm not sure anymore.

You need to cock the shutter before retracting the lens.

The Rollei 35's are little jewels. I have a black S, a chrome T, and a black B.

I bought my rollei 35 on the day they first went on sale in nyc. Still going strong as good as ever. Knocked around a bit with some dents but such things don't seem to matter. You made a good buy.
