Many years ago my brother-in-law was at a flea market and was looking through a bushel basket under a fellows table and pulled out a Canon P, in its case with that exact same lens. He ask the fellow what he had to have for it and the fellow said $15.00. My brother-in-law was thinking of asking his wife for a $5.00 bill since he only had $10.00 left in his pocket. While he hesitated the guy, thinking he was going to put it down, said alright you can have it for $10.00. So much for the old say, 'he who hesitates is lost" A few weeks later he gave the camera to me and said use it as much as you like.I did and was absolutely floored by the results of that black-nosed beauty. It was one of, if not the best, 50mm 1.8 or any aperture lenses I have ever used. Stunning pretty well covers it. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it I would like first crack at it. I found out later he sold it to a fellow worker where he worked. Our relationship was never quite the same after that. He's gone now and so is that lovely Canon black-nose 50mm f1.8. I miss them both.........John W

Thanks for the mini review and interesting story, unfortunately I didn't pay $10 but 65, still I think it's a good price for it, I bought it with my "new" L-1 that you can see in the other page, the seller also gave me the hood so it's more or less a complete set.

I wanted to get the 1.4 but it was too expensive so I decided to get a 1.8 if I could find one at decent price, I'm looking forward to receiving the package and test it, I already have a 7s which is a wonderful RF and a canon f1.2 that is not a wonderful lens.

Yes, I've owned the Canon P(bought one after the (My brother-in-law deal) and the full range of the model 7's I used to tell my friend, who was a Leica nut, that I preferred the late Canon 7Sz to even my Leica M2 at the time. I certainly liked using them better than any Leica LTM, (including the Leica IIIG). Be sure to let us know how you like your new camera and lens. John W

Nice grab!

Just picked up an excellent condition Canon A-1 with the 50mm f/1.8 FD lens for $17. The camera has all the mode but manual. Well yes it can be used in manual but quite inconvenient.

Not inconvenient, just a bit slower to use than other camaras.
Most of my pro work was made with an A-1. Read the manual fully!!

Eastman #2 7x11 camera that I will to use to make calotypes and paper negatives for salt printing.

7x11 is a really nice format for contact printing. My two homemade foamcore cameras already used this format, and now I have a proper camera to make them.

Just peachy!

I hit the Canon jackpot today. A friend of a friend gave me a box full of gear. FT QL with 50 1.8 FL, A1 with 50 1.8 new FD(oh my I'm up to 5 Canon FL/FD 50 1.8's), 3 Vivitar flashes. The 283 is the one I really wanted but corrosion on the batt terminals may not be able to be removed. Canon new FD 70-210 f/4 lens with box, and a few odds and ends. The bodies are good except for the light seals(and the Canon cough on the A1). The A1 I got today looks much nicer than the one I already had. The red tape on the FT is so the cold shoe won't short out the terminals on a modern flash and keep it from firing.

I took delivery of a real beast today, a Fuji GL690 with the 100mm AE lens. It all function properly(after fixing the stiff R-S switch), needs new light seals, real ugly in the looks department with a lot of external paint wear and touch ups, clean glass, and even has a functioning lightshield curtain. I used my previous vintage buy for scale since they are both rangefinders and the Fuji is about equivalent to the Zeiss Contina's 45mm lens.

No new camera but finally got a 100mm lens, my first 100mm!! It's a Canon nFD 100/2.8 and it's tiny!!

Actually I bought these two last year, but still I would like to share a pic:

Received a black Nikon FM body which needed some TLC. I've cleaned it up and will probably resell it to put it in the hands of someone who will use it.

A Honeywell Pentax Spotmatic. Rather unusual here as Asahi used their own name in Europe, the Honeywell name only being used in the Americas.

Camera works well apart from the meter which is u/s. Also, one of the PC sockets is missing, so I suspect someone has had the camera apart, lost the PC socket, and damaged the meter wiring. As I prefer a hand-held meter I don't really care.

This is my third Pentax, the others being SV and a SP1000. I rather like them.
