The only split-image screens I like are the diagonal ones. They're more useful than the horizontal split-image screens. In fact, the only Nikkormat body I'm keeping is a rather rare FT2 with the older J microprism spot screen. Looks like it came with one from the factory. I'm going to compromise on my FM2n and install a K3 screen from an FM3a, that way it doesn't go black as easily.

I owned a FT2 and i had difficulties focusing it. It had the split screen. I sold it and much later got a mint Nikomat FTN, with the microprism. Surprisingly i found it easier for focusing. So your FT2 is the best of the two worlds.

Some people say the FT3 is the most desirable of the Nikkormats, but i seriously disagree, btw. Pre-AI lens compatibility is gone. And that's a sin!!

I thought I'd posted this before, but perhaps I did in a different forum. This camera was mentioned in a post on the LFF which the moderator was nice enough to delete because it was not posted in the For Sale forum, so it didn't get much traffic. Anyhow, I responded to the poster and he told me the sale price which I was able to come up with (my wife contributed most of it!). The camera included both 11x14 & 8x10 reducing backs and a blank lens board. It is essentially unused, hardly any marks and the knobs are so tight, it hurts my fingers to turn them. I put chardboard on the bed to keep it from getting scratched by the reducing board. It's so neat that it uses the same 6x6 lens board as the V8, so I don't have to remount any lenses. Anyhow, it's my 6th Deardorff, but my first ULF camera! I was really lucky to get it for roughly the cost of it in 1982! That is a beautiful piece of equipment! Makes my Graphic View 4x5 look like an instamatic.

An early post WW2 Mamiya Six (IV) folder. Looks to have been owned by an Australian RAAF serviceman, probably in the occupation forces.

It'll need a bit of TLC as the viewfinder is like looking in a whiteout and the lens is a bit hazy. Neither of these look like fungus so I'm hopeful.

The mechanical aspects - film wind on, focus and shutter all appear to be working smoothly. Looks like Mamiya chose their lubricants well.

I doubt that it has been used in several decades as the empty takeup spool is a very old metal Kodak spool - mid 60's??

Let the journey of resuscitation begin.

Sold for about $2,300 at introduction in 1996 (about $3600 in today's money) these can now be found for a couple of hundred dollars

The FT3 is not guilty of such a sin as it can use the newer AI lenses and has the retractable metering coupling lever to be able to use pre-AI lenses in stop down mode.

I deliberately chose the FT2 over all the other models because it is able to meter both pre-AI and AI wide open.

I'm not fond of stop-down metering and I don't mind the twist-ritual with the coupling lever.

I bought a Pentax Spotmatic II at my local camera store today. It came with a 50mm 1.4 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar lens. I haven't loaded any film in it yet, but hope to do so tomorrow. I'm looking forward to printing some negs from this camera/lens...

I was initially looking for Canon AE-1 Program. Then I got really excited about Minolta X-700, there was one in the mintiest mint condition ever on eBay. When I missed out on this one I visited a gentleman here locally who had some old gear he used years ago, he said he had two AE-1s, not sure if they were Program or not. It turned out they were A-1, and he also had F-1, and lots of great lenses. So I bought the lot. He also gave me about 40 rolls of old film, all frozen for the last 15-20 years.

One A-1 has a squeak, the other one and the F-1 are perfect. All mint. Very happy.

Traded my F eyelevel for a very late chrome F FTn (7439xxx serial, instead of 7405xxx serial). A bit cleaner looking, cosmetically. Other camera purchases that occured in the past 36 hours:

Black Spotmatic II with 50/1.4 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar (unfortunately, very full of fungus)
Chrome Spotmatic (bought it for the 135/3.5 Super-Tak that was attached to it)
Chrome Nikkormat FT2.

The FT2 was a freebie that came with the Spotmatic. The Spottie with the 135/3.5 was $15, and the Spot II was $12. All items were acquired at the swap meet.



Chrome Spottie not shown - gave that to Mike Langley at the swap meet, since I had no need for it. Lens on the FT2 was a purchase from about 18 months ago, along with the F-36 drive.

The camera is immaculate, all speeds sound right (the seller had checked them and said that 1/300 was running a little slow) focus smooth and easy, lens clear. The everready case has a few minor scuffs. The original instruction book is a little worn, the box is pretty scruffy. Not a bad deal for $100. plus shipping! I'm a happy camper.

I have that exact model. Load the camera with patience and delicateness -- it has a strange double pressure plate plus a film claw.

Hey, at least the back is attached! I love my Vitessa L, but who ever thought a fully detachable back was a good idea? If the Solagon is as good as the Vitessa's f 2 Ultron I'll be happy.

I picked up a Canon EOS 630 body yesterday for the princely sum of $10.00 in "very good" condition. All functions seem to work well. I'll couple this w/ a 28/90 Canon zoom from KEH in EX condition, and so for less than $80.00 have a kit to keep in the truck for those unexpected Kodak Moments. Any thoughts on this combo?
