Missing having a 6x9 camera, I impulsively put a stupidly too high bid into eBay for one almost at random, and now I'm poorer by an amount that matters to me, and have a camera on its way to me which might turn out to be broken or which will break once I start using it.

So.

Well - at least you are upbeat about it

a good sized bottle of silver nitrate

After I made the order, I got an email that I needed to add a little more for shipping... it's yet another item that must be shipped by ground.
Not complaining.. we're lucky here in the US to have access to reasonably priced chemicals and that they can be delivered right to our door.

Heh. Try getting a little bottle of "touch up" paint for your car delivered to your mailbox. Can't be done: "hazardous material". Must have it sent to the dealership (not sure how they qualify). Definitely not fun if the only dealership is in a different state.

But AgNO3 - good deal.

I get my "genuine Mopar" oil filters from the nearby dealer ( at a considerable markup ) and last time I was there I noticed the rack of little bottles of touch up paint for all the different Chrysler colors...they were not cheap, and I wondered why I hadn't ever noticed them online. That's probably why. When my Grandfather bought his 1963 Rambler, it came with touch up paints for each of the two tones... and he handed them to me when I "inherited" the car!

you so are!
I was lucky a couple of years ago to find a legit seller of AgNO3 on eBay, knocking out Sigma photograde in 100g tubs for a decent price (about £60/100g) so I scraped up my cash and got one. I use so little that it should last for years.
Seeing your post, I checked prices today - that guy no longer trades sadly - and it's mostly about £1/g now (Silverprint £1.70/g tho' !)
Of course Silver nitrate is a bad comparator because its price is exactly as volatile as the precious metals markets.

Why am I posting this?

'bye ...

It arrived this afternoon and I can't find anything wrong with the bastard thing. Shutter fine, focusing fine, bellows don't leak, all the things that should move easily move easily and all the things that should stay still stay still.

bloody hell.

oh hang on.

ah, yes, i didn't notice on the listing that the shutter top speed is only 1/125th.

well that makes it useless and not a nice catch for a decent price after all.

so, i'm happy now.

:D Glad something made you happy. You'll also be happy to consider that Acros is no longer available, but FP4 should do, or, like me, you can anxiously await Mirko and Adox to make more CHS 100 II. Mine goes up to 1/250, and I do use that sometimes, but maybe not as much as you might think... I don't put ISO 400 film in it though...

Fomapan 100 is pretty good, and responds well to development in dilute Perceptol or 2 bath formulae like Barry Thornton's. Stoeckler's would probably work well as this is a proper old style emulsion.

In the last two weeks, I purchased both an SB-26, and SB-28DX Speedlights for my Nikons. Good deals on both, and they work excellently.

Haven't lit up in any way for 14 years.

Also, I don't get to have a 'phone in my cell any more since the ... um ... unpleasantness about my "witness tampering" ...

I went on a cheap lens buying spree lately: three short-ish zooms for my Minolta MD mounts (28-80, 28-90 and 35-70, none over $40) and an old Soligor 21mm in M42.
I know the Soligor doesn't have the best reputation but I've never owned a lens wider than 24mm and I wanted to try something cheap before I went and spent real money on a good lens in that focal range.
The zooms were cheap enough that I can play with them a bit and see which (if any) I like. It's been years since I shot with a zoom but they're handy for travel and I'm taking a trip in the fall and don't want to carry a raft of primes around with me.
