A very nice 3-D printed lens cap and a lens hood/filter adapter for my Hasselblad 40mm Distagon. Purchased from the big auction site from a seller in Italy.

There was a very large community "yard sale" along Route 11 (from Stephens City to New Market) in the Virginia Shenandoah Valley this weekend. We decided to check it out with me hoping for a "barn find" Leica. :D

No dusty Leicas, but I did find a clean Argus Seventy Five kit with flashgun, 8 flash bulbs, two exposed rolls of Kodacolor II, and one unexposed roll of Kodacolor II in a case for $10 and a Honeywell Tilt-a-flash unit in its case and original box for $5. The flash even had the capacitor and the entire unit looks brand new. I think it'll be a good pairing with my Canon VT or Canon FT. I need a 15v battery and flashbulbs, but both are still available. First I need to test the capacitor before I spend money on consumables.

I also found an old Kodak Instamatic that was equipped with a selenium light meter (or looked like that). It was metal and quite heavier than the one I had as a kid in the early 80s. However, I didn't want to add another format to my collection, so I left it for someone else.

I'm going to try and develop the two rolls of exposed film with B&W chemistry to see what's there. The unexposed roll will get run through the camera and also developed with B&W chemistry since I don't want to spend the money to send it out for C41 processing. I need to do some reading on how to do that though.

Lemme see...

A couple dozen sheets of Schut Laurier etching paper, mostly for carbon transfers
Some Schut Salland fine art paper for alt. process printing in general

Further 'fine art' paper samples that I wanted to select candidates from for printing tests:
  • Fabriano Tiepolo - looks nice, but surface is a bit too coarse for my taste; backside looks more promising but it has the characteristic Fabriano texture of tiny squares (it's also present on Artistico if you look closely).
  • Somerset Satin White; looks great and I think I'm going to order some more for testing
  • Somerset Satin Radiant White; has a subtle texture and it really is radiant white, but this is due to the use of optical brightening agents and I prefer papers without these. Under artificial light the Satin White has the same reflectance, so I'm going to stick with that.
  • Arches Velin; nice, but too warm/tan to my taste. Also has the Fabriano texture, but its orientation is different.
  • Magnani Incisioni, Litho and Corona - These resemble a Steinbach paper I once tried; I hope it really isn't related, because that really was a poor quality paper (more filler than fiber, short fiber length, poor wet handling characteristics). But I'm not going to evaluate them further because they're absolutely packed to the brim with OBA's - sure, the papers look nice and white, but that's just because they're basically day-glo...slightly disappointed with these to be honest, given the reputation of the mill and the price point.
Also just ordered some C41 developer replenisher, C41 fixer, RA4 developer and a nice roll of Fuji DPII paper. This is to trial the new retail channel I helped set up (which I'm not part of; I just helped get things going) and that hopefully will make it way easier to purchase the Fuji color paper and chemistry products that make the most sense to European amateur, fine-arts and educational users. Things are looking promising on this front, with rolls of DPII and Maxima as well as CPRA chemistry being easily available from now on!

After selling some of my 4"x5" stuff (and still have some left for sale), I bought a used Silvestri SLV 6x9 with a S-A 47mm and a Wista roll film back.

Picked this beauty up the other day, other than a squeaky helicoid it seems to be in good shape. If I like shooting with it I’ll probably have a CLA done.

Spotted a nice clean Nippon Kogaku Varifocal viewfinder on Craigslist, turned out that the seller also had a Nikkor-P.C 8.5cm f2 lens for sale, ended up buying both.

A pallet of large format Cesco and Kodak Tanks, print washers of assorted sizes and film washers for both sheet film up to 5x7 and roll film from 35mm to JOBO reels. All this just to get a sheet film wash tank and a print washer. Still sorting some things out and cleaning up some of the other items😀

2x3 sheet film and some 35mm film. Oh yeah, and a 1940s book on Kodachrome.

just ordered the Hasselblad tool to unjam a 501c, which was left uncocked when the lens was taking off. Hope it works!

Get a Nikon F2. It works even though it’s broken…!

A little used but a must have tool. Once you use it to free up the lens, you will never need it as long as you keep it nearby. The Hasselblad system sense the presence of the tool and will behave itself to avoid contact with it.
