Do you live there, or were you on vacation?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

naaah i wasn't on vacation, nor do i live there
...
the black stuff i process my film in has a slang name ...
that comes from that famous indonesian port that the dutch/pirate traders planted "Coffea arabica L." plants
stolen from al mocha yemen in the 1600s. they were patient and waited a few years for them to fruit and made one of
the world's first blends "mocha-java " mine wasn't full city, peets, or starbks roast but
"roasted to completion" as mortenson might have said

I could have suggested Java (as in Sun, now Oracle) can only develop digital images, and that you should go to DPUG, lol. Of course, you would probably use Net Beans to make your own Java developer... wow, I really need to get more sleep.

While I know Java as a slang for coffee, for some reason it always makes me think of Java Man.

I'm asshamed to say it but it's true,I developed a taste for digital printingand replicated all my best analogs with great success.

One roll of Kentmere and one roll of premium Arista but Arista required double the long fixing times. In fact four and eight minutes with Adox Adofix.

Dev'd a roll of TMAX 100 to get a portrait off. I wound up finishing the roll on fun pics. Yashica MAT 124G.

Digitally, some work from Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest NPs that I did last year. But I still do do analog. I am working my way through some 2-1/4 negatives I made many years ago (as many as 45 years ago). I've printed many of them before, of course, but now I'm trying to do a decent job. Sometimes, I'm even successful.

Today. Printed some 2-1/4 pinhole negs, all on Ilford MGWT matt. Not a bad paper but lith printing with this material is a yawn. I've had much better results with some of the Foma papers. Probably do some of those next week. I'm getting ready for a show in December.

5 Rolls of film and 3 10x10 photos from a recent trip into PA.

16 4x5 sheets tray processed by inspection. 8 sheets each of foma 400 and arista ortho ii films. Shot them over the summer but I've been really dragging my heels with film development. I have another 18 sheets of foma 400 to develop from a trip to Maine as well from after Labor Day. But those may have some problems as I had some spring back issues on the first of the two days of shooting I did. The back wasn't holding the film holders properly and there was some evidence of light leaks on some instant film I shot. Resolved it in the hotel room but I'm not really looking forward to seeing the messed up shots. Roll film has been occupying my other time.

Thirty years after

The "last" was yesterday...when I developed my "First" roll after > 30 years....
It was a test roll of Rollei RPX 400 (120 format)

Not bad for a last/first time....

About 15 11x14 prints from a variety of negatives - not including work prints and duplicates.

All garbage ... the first 10 of 20 pieces of long waiting 4x5. Came ot cloudy und too dark with lost details. Left Rodinal for D-76 and noticed confusion with my notes.
Ts, latent images older than half a year, what did I expect?!
There are still several rolls of 120 waiting. Perhaps I should save the time not developing them ...

What film? The only film that is modern in anyway that has any kind of latent image loss is Ilford PanF+ but that certainly would not have been cloudy and doesn't come in sheet film. All other modern sheet films do not lose their latent image at all for many many years.

Are you sure there wasn't an error somewhere else? If they were too dark perhaps your exposure was off? That still doesn't account for the cloudiness factor which is confusing. I would investigate before shooting anymore film because it sounds like something else is off in your process.

Good luck!

@darkosaric: First shot(style) is very familiar to me...

Dead Link Removed

Magic of pyro.

Stone is right, you need to check all the variables before shooting or developing more. You should have done a few sheets initially to judge if any development tweaks are needed. That's the beauty of large format you don't need to do it all at once and can vary it. The cloudyness could be fogging from anything, such as thin bellows or a light leak, or being exposed to light somewhere during loading or unloading the film etc. cloudyness could also be the film not clearing in spent fixer. So many possibilities. Keep at it!

There are simply too many variables I changed ...
HP5+, FP4+ and Tri-X 320 ... messed up all my notices with the exposure and speed. Additional I decided to use D-76.
The shots havbe been from 02/2014 and probably around 08/2013 ... shame on me!

The more I think about I think I have found the reason: my tank. The "famous" Doran ... probably cloudy because of less turbulences while agitation. I think I will return to developing with trays like with 8x10.

paying apprenticeship premium ;-)

only ONE film, ONE developer will be my future ;-)
