Began warming up. Was 48 deg F at 1 pm. About 10 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. Alas, once the sun went down, it got cold again. Should be about 54 degrees tomorrow and Wednesday.

November in Sweden is a depressing time. We currently have 6°C, a light drizzle, windy and overcast, but the worst part is the darkness, it never gets really light outside. Saps all your energy away I tell you (not to mention it makes judging print values in "daylight" a little difficult).

Woke to 6f this morning, north and west of here got hammered with massive lake effect snow. High winds for last night and all day, 30-35 gusts to 45 mph. I hate global warming.

long term the green house effect shortens spring and fall it is like leaving the ice box door open for longer.
Global warming is not a reasonable name.
Fridge defrosting this century... more apt.

It was 10F (-12.2C) on the way into work. The roads were dry, but there was no cloud-cover, so the heliophobes were moving at half the speed limit.

Hi Truzi

How many BHP?
Do you have to fit winter tyres?

PS the auto I normally use has (should have) 65 BHP @ 5500 rpm but is on summer rubber with 30k UK miles and might have a few mm off think the sidewalls are going to crack first... Some of our trees are still green.

When I was younger, a lot of people in this area used snow tires (some even studded tires). As time goes by, though, people become complacent - and I have a bit as well. I have "all-season" tires, as I can't afford a separate set of snow tires - they are about 2 months old (probably about 3,000 U.S. miles).

I wish I could afford snow tires, but I can handle what winter throws us in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Snow tires would just make it easier. All-season tires are good, but not as great as everyone thinks; few have ever really compared (instead, they believe what advertisers feed them).

Lets see... a quick look-up on edmunds.com claims my car has 302 hp @ 5600 rpm, and 339 ft-lbs. of torque @ 2700 (don't ask me to convert that to kW, Nm, joules, calories, or anything, lol).

We have a few trees that have yet to loose their leaves. I don't think they were ready for this yet.

Los Angeles 77 degrees F [25 C] today.80 degrees F [26,7 C] tomorrow.

This weekend we took a trip to Yosemite.

Tough life being a pensioner, but someone has to live it.

Still comfortably warm here, the rest of the US is just chilling out. :whistling:

Im well impressed (by 300 hp) we might not get any snow or ice so I don't bother with winters normally but further north in Scotland many people switch tyres for the winter routinely.

In Sweden the traffic people will give you a ($) ticket if you are on summer tyres in bad winter weather.

I've lived in New England (Massachusetts and Connecticut), upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and now Iowa. I've owned my own cars since 1987 and I've NEVER had snow tires. My first three cars were front wheel drive and were great to decent in snow ('95 Ford Probe GT was actually my favorite, but the '87 Plymouth Sundance was the best in snow - it just wasn't good anywhere else). Even the Mustang isn't too horrible in snow if the tires (all seasons ones) are good (I just need something heavy over the rear tires).

Still quite cold here, but there's a chance of 40s (F) this weekend. Normal for right now would be a high of 45F during the day and we're not getting over 30F.

Rain this morning -- knew it was coming as soon as I opened my back door! Warm air from the south being swept over us as the storm approaches from the north! But a nice evening yesterday! Dug a fire pit in the backyard and had a bunch of friends over for beer and horse ovaries. Some clouds overhead kept the temps up nicely (in the mid-50's) so that shorts, short-sleeves and a vest was all that was needed around the fire. We are a bunch of old farts, so everyone was gone by 9pm and I sat pleasantly by the fire until 11pm. I need to retire soon so that I don't have to get up at some ungodly hour so that I can be at work at 10am. Life is tough!

3:30 AM and 54.8 degrees.

I was awakened by booming noises which I am being told are something called 'thunder', and then drops of water began falling right out of the sky! It continued for a short while.
I have a vague recollection of that phenomenon occurring here sometime in the past, and can almost remember what it was called. Rine? Ween? I think maybe the word is 'wane', but that doesn't sound quite right either.

It snowed while I was asleep, more than expected. It's fluffy and easy to drive through... except that our driveway is a school bus stop, and a neighbor kid decided to clear the sidewalk & part of the driveway apron. He shoveled the snow to the middle of the apron, not to the yard. (Last year an adult did the same thing. I see a feud in the future.)

It's sitting at about 30f today and raining, DOT is shutting most of the roads down around us. I live in the mountains, no major highway, but the main roads are all ice covered.

Yesterday was really, really wet.

Today the sky is blue, the air is fresh, and it is about 9C.

A beautiful day for a walk!

I hear that some folks on the east coast of USA are getting massive amounts of snow. Any APUGers in that region?

PE and the rest of the folks in Rochester are quite close to Buffalo, but it appears that the problem areas are highly localized.

It's official, as of 3:15 pm no roads in or out of town are open. Accidents on EVERY road, salt trucks can not keeping up with this. BTW, today is opening day of black bear season and there are about 700-800 hunters in the county that are stranded. Trust me when I say, four wheel drive ain't gonna help one bit on this sh!t.

It was 18F yesterday, and is now 48F. A usual dreary and overcast winter day, but we are expecting rain tonight and temps in the 50s tomorrow. This is normal for this area.

We keep seeing reports on Buffalo. That is insane, and I think they are breaking some records - though they do get hit like that once in a great while.

I live in a suburb of Buffalo and I was on the edge of the lake effect squall line which was about 20 miles wide and about 40 to 50 miles long. This squall was very unusual in that it didn't move for over 24 hours. I got about three feet of snow and my son who lives about three miles from me into the squall got about six feet all in 24 hours. People who lived three miles in the other direction from me got less than a foot. My son's street was finally opened on Friday. Most people survived the storm pretty well as these sort of things are not uncommon and Buffaloons are a pretty hardy breed ;-).
It is now about 40F and has been raining...predicting 50F on Sunday and 60F on Monday ... So flooding is likely.
Until Lake Erie freezes over around the middle of February, we will be subjected to these lake effect storms...hopefully not as severe as this.
