Hope you and your neighbors are all good! That was some major wind. I guess Southmoreland Elementary and middle schools didn't get power back until about 5pm Friday. We were apparently lucky to get ours back as quickly as we did. And Carson's (a restaurant in town) lost part of its roof.
It's now just 19F and we got a little snow today. It's supposed to be 40s tomorrow and 60 by Tuesday.
Yeah, the folks who are emergency planning specialists talk about the need for multiple 20 gallon containers of water...when one flush of a toilet is 2 gallons, you don't get many days of flushing with one container of water. If power goes out for days, it is time for a slit trench to be dug, and commune with nature in order to ration the water for drinking only.RickA said:One thing most people don't think about, if you have a well and the power goes out, you don't have water and you can't flush a certain item.
That and the fridge are why I want a genny. One thing most people don't think about, if you have a well and the power goes out, you don't have water and you can't flush a certain item.
Many for home use run on propane tanks. How much propane depends on how much stuff you're running (like whether a certain garage is included). How much gasoline does it take to continuously run a generator for a day?!
..and it takes 1.38 gallons of propane to equal the energy of 1 gallon of gas. For folks who have a big propane tank supplied via mobile truck to supply their ordinary cooking and heating uses, propane generator perhaps makes sense. But for someone who simply use 20 gal. propane for their BBQ grill, I'm not so sure it is practical. That and the fridge are why I want a genny.

Yes, there are natural gas generators, but you need to live somewhere that has supply lines otherwise you do what we did, install a propane fired genny...and it takes 1.38 gallons of propane to equal the energy of 1 gallon of gas. OTOH there are natural gas generators.

I can give you the name of the guy who installs them around here, he's a retired WPP lineman and certified Generac installer.
