Further up the state in NH, "The ambient air temperature on the summit Saturday morning was -38 degrees with a wind chill making it feel like 97 below."

... if you come to SoCal bring your own water and color match your socks with your tennis shoes.

No socks, no tennis shoes. Temperature is down to 62F (17C) tonight; had to put on sweats.

It got above zero F today for the first time in about 2 weeks I think. Its been so cold my fuel oil has jelled every night for the last week, which has never happened even once before. Fun stuff.

-20F here this morning, High of 6 today. But then we are into our January thaw, reaching 40 by Thursday. With rain of course, so the sidewalks will be sheets of ice. Come summer I am blessed with never getting above mid 90s, so I don’t complain too much.

exactly, i'd take snow, cold and ice any day..
unfortunately being south of you 3-4hours it gets 90ºF+ and 95% humidity
i kind of miss the black flys ...

ouside its a balmy 2ºF the trees are shaking so i know the "feels like" is well below 0 ..

Very chilly today! Only 63 degrees F! [17 degrees C] We have to wear sweaters or fleece.

Unlike Sirius, I ant going to say anything except if you come to SoCal bring your own water and color match your socks with your tennis shoes.

Ya, some parts of SoCal can get pretty rough.

Yes it is a tough life to live here, but someone has to live it. Every morning I have to carefully choose socks to match my athletic shoes because I always wear shorts. It is just an extra step when dressing that is required in Southern California.

Tell me about it. People elsewhere don't realize the sacrifices we have to make - such as many of the shorts and t-shirts I find while shopping don't have enough pockets - some have none!

No place to put extra film or filters. Sad!

I made little pockets in my baseball cap to hold a couple of filters, need to save room for the sun screen oil in my tee shirt pocket.

It's about to warm up here, but the little guy and I went to Ohiopyle State Park to check out the icy streams, etc.. I only took my dslr, but its batteries were better than my fingers. A couple of my shots are on my flickr stream. I'm planning on skipping the gym tomorrow morning to go back since I didn't get to Cucumber Falls because there wasn't enough parking (I wasn't the only one who had the idea). I'm hoping it still has a bunch of ice 'cause it hasn't gotten above freezing yet.

I used to have my cameras lubricated for cold weather every winter. That way I did not have cold weather shutter issues.
I would need to be well "lubricated" (to heck with the photo equip.) to shoot pictures in -15F weather and probably would not be in any condition to trip a shutter. Sirius, it seems you folks have rain forecast this weekend which should finish putting out the fires......Regards!

I'm in Hawaii now. The weather is pretty nice.

Finally light gentle on and off rain.

It's been 90F day after day here and it'll be March before any significant cool down. At least it's not 117F like western Sydney yesterday!

+6C/43F Sunday
-8C/18F Today
-22C/-8F Tomorrow
And possibly +11C/52F by Monday..
I'm glad I rarely get migraines...

Ice ice baby...

Now it is raining hard most of the day. I have not been nor do I expect to have problems with mud flows, although some people nearby are suffering with it.

I just read that a lot of bats are dying due to the heat despite volunteer's efforts to save them. Sad story.

Tonight watching the mud being cleared of highway 101, the homes and the cars from the Thomas fire is heart breaking.

In a most peculiar twist of meteorological conditions, it topped 42.3 celsius down here last Saturday in the deep south 21km from the coast (even on the hottest days we get sea breezes that temper things nicely). Incredibly, a 'mild cool change' in the evening sent temperatures plummeting to just 19 degrees in 15 minutes, and it didn't get past 21 degrees the next day. It is still struggling to get anywhere near 25 degrees now, but will heat up again tomorrow (Thurs.) and Fri before another cool change.

It's true that Penrith out west of Sydney got to around 47 or 48 degrees celsius. It was reported in one of the papers that two petrol bowsers in full sun came close to exploding and were shut off. Far to the westward, at Broken Hill, the stifling dustbowl was baked and scorched in much the same temperatures. It would be nice to have a decent downpour of rain, but no short-term outlook is mentioning that.

So...quite a dramatic contrast of conditions with a startling view of frozen Niagra Falls, hmm?

Tonite blowing snow at 30 km/h and temp at -25C (wind chill = -35C). Brrrrrrr in South Alberta....

Quite a contrast with Penrith, England where I live... It's cold, damp and foggy at the moment. We tend to have too much rain rather than too little!
