But if you don't have a winter, how do you appreciate a summer?

We do not need Spring, because flowers, bushes and trees bloom all year.
If we want Fall colors we drive to Yucaipa. No leaves to rake.
If we want snow we drive to the mountains. No sidewalks to shovel. No cars to dig out.
Our snow is placed on the mountains for the skiers and snowboarders.
Ice goes in drinks and skating rinks.
Why would anyone have ice and snow on the streets and sidewalks?
Come on folks this program is not rocket science, get with the program.
Rollerskating, bicycle rides, swimming and walks on the beach are year round activities.
We live in endless Summer and shake our heads in amazement that people put up with hurricanes, tornadoes, ice and snow.

But all values are relative and if you don't experience cold, you don't value warmth, or at least not as much.

And I travel out of the area to ski at least one full week a year plus weekends.
We can be hiking at 6,000 to 10,000 feet in less than an hour drive and at the beach in 20 minutes.

Yucaipa. I assume you are actually referring to Oak Glen, at its higher elevation on
Oak Glen Road between Yucaipa and Beaumont. Excellent apples and winter snow.

Experiencing ten below zero this morning. Danged weatherman screwed it up again, he said it was only supposed to be one below.

It was windless T-shirt weather a week ago. Today it's raining like crazy and flooding is expected on certain watersheds. It's what we call the
Pineapple Express - warm saturated storms coming across from Hawaii into Calif. But because this is relatively warm, the snow level will
be quite high in the Sierra, largely above the ski resorts. Hard to say at this point whether the state will have another serious drought year
or not, since it's the Spring snowpack which determines overall water resources later on. The only thing I'm certain of, is that in this state we have an absolute genius for wasting water. But that's true of most of the West.

Beware complacency. The last internal calculation I saw showed over 32-feet of potential offset just outside of Palmdale, silently waiting for the right lunar cycle, like a viciously coiled rattlesnake in a really bad mood.

Whether it is hot, or whether it is cold, the weather will not quite be old. So grab a friend, and a blanket, and make your day less a racket. Run, go, hop, climb, swim, jump, or dive, but, please, oh, please, take a photo too, and share it with those of us stuck in our minds away from the fun!

But oh, man, it pours up here in Northern CA! At least for now!

55F, 20mph wind from the south, 84% humidity, rain (only a couple inches on the coast this month -- more inland).

Sunny and 20F in Mid Missouri today. We are supposed to get another 1" on Sunday and Tuesday. I may be bragging now but it doesn't bode well for the Summer and the water table.
