Raining and 4 C here in Southern New Hampshire. There's an inch or two of snowfall from yesterday which had turned to slush. It's going to get flipping cold this week so that stuff will all freeze as we head into "deep winter"

Lets see, 20s F a couple days ago, 52 last nite, and now it's in the 20s F again, lol. Some snow, but just a splotchy dusting on the lawn - it's not sticking to paved surfaces.

It's now 5^F (-15^C), but barely any snow. The University told us to arrive at 10 a.m. instead of our usual time (8 a.m. for me) because of the cold. Spring semester hasn't started, so this only applies to faculty and staff, most of which are on vacation anyway. It's a bit embarrassing that we are so afraid of the cold, but hey, extra sleep!

I've a lot of work to get done this week. I'll probably just get up at my normal time (6 a.m.) and head in as usual, but without the usual rush.

so, um, bushfire is out; 27 homes lost but no deaths so far as I know, which is a damn miracle considering that it burnt about 13,000 ha (that's 50 square miles to you yanks).

We're now expecting ~25% of our state's annual rainfall to arrive in the next two days in the middle of summer - biggest rainfall here in 30 years if it happens. wtf.

Massive fires create their own weather patterns. Maybe it's natures way of seeding clouds to invoke rain.
Up here in my neck of the world(or arm pit depending on point of view) it's -5f, with wind chills to -20f. Is the guest room available polyglot?

Glad to hear there were no known deaths. That rain is going to cause other problems, though. You aren't getting a break, though - things just seem to be hitting you one after another.

-2^F (-18^C) on my way in to work today. At least the more delicate souls stayed off the roads - my commute was wonderful.

Our high yesterday was 7 F, with 20mph winds. Today, it's warmer (10 F so far), but feels about as cold because it's gusting to 35mph and it feels like most gusts than steady wind. Both days, the dogs pulled me back to the house instead of wanting to walk after doing what they needed to do.

Polyglot - glad you're safe and good luck with the rain.

A beautiful sunrise this am atop Burnaby Mountain; down in the valley, however, fog is thick enough to cut with a chainsaw. Weather Network this am expects conditions of near-zero visibility tonight (same as last night). Temperature according to the thermometer on my patio currently shows around 5C.

From a climate point of view, would you say southern California is the best place to live on the planet? If not, where?

From a climate point of view my preference is New England: you get a healthy dose of all four seasons and you just need to dig a hole in your backyard to find water.

I used to live in S. Cali out in the desert and -- as odd as it sounds -- I got tired of the never-ending sunshine.

Yes, that is why I live here. That is why I quit working in Virginia.

It's now -1^F (-18^C), expected to go to -5^ (-20^) tonight. It probably won't go over 8^ (-13^) tomorrow.

72 degrees F [22.2 degrees C] beautiful sky, all very boring. Tough life but someone has to live it.
