Friend of mine won a Leica M4 on photo contest. I have sold couple of years ago a fellow APUGer Leica Mini II P&S for 10 euro, the same price that I paid on flea market. Patience, something will pop out .

Cheers.

Eli, I have the Leica for you, no prob. $10 spot is fine. But the shipping quote I got to get it to NC is $1800. Will that suit?

I believe I'm just short today, but if that changes, well, we'll see. ;-)

A few weeks ago, I spotted a Leica GHM007 for 9.99$ at a nearby thrift store. It might still be there.

The only Leica still camera I got, I bought for just 5 Euro . One of those Japan-made AF-compacts. At home it turned out dead....

The Leica market is weird. A great lot of Leica products can be had locally for a few Euros, just not the still rangefinder cameras and resp. lenses.

One does not want to be a Donner Party donor...

Yeah, I'd probably.................wait for it......................."pass".

Jeremy

What if you... cannibalize... a bunch of parts from various broken Leicas to make a working one?

You mean like adding up a variety of parts... summit?

Yes, use donor cameras in the Donner fashion. You might need a Truckee load of parts, though.

Yup... as long as Eli’s not paying an arm-and-a-leg for those parts.

No, he's trying to do it on a hamstring, I mean shoestring budget.

Remind me to not use the caterer that the Donner Party Used.

Good luck with that! I have always been short and I am still waiting to grow taller.

I'm pretty sure there's a deadline on short -- if you don't grow out of it by age 18 to 20, you aren't going to. I managed to get to "average" by then, and had to live with that. Fortunately, I never really cared about "tall".

It helps when shooting over crowds, but then again, that is what TLRs (or any waist level finder) are for.

I don't think I'm ready to hold my RB67 upside down over my head, thank you just the same. Nor even my Reflex II. For me, that calls for a wide lens and "point and hope" framing.

When I was younger, I'd climb on stuff, too. I do less of that now that I can see retirement through my bifocals...

Do this.. buy a Kodak Retina IIc or IIIc on Ebay. Send it to Chris Sherlock, at RetinaRescue dot com. He will CLA it for about $150 (USD) and for 210$ you will have a Kodak Rangefinder that will go head to head with any Barnack Camera out there. The Kodak is pocketable and the IIc has a 50mm f2.8, and the IIIc has a 50mm f/2.0. The IIc has no lightmeter but the IIIc does have a lightmeter and they work great and are very accurate. The Barnack IIIc/f with a 35mm Summaron will cost you about $700 out the door. The Kodak Rangefinder with a nicer Viewfinder will cost you about $200. Honestly you wont be able to tell the difference in the image and you will be able to sell a Cleaned, Lubed and Adjusted Kodak Retina for exactly what you paid for it either here or over at Rangefinder Forum.

Another option is to find a Pentax K1000 and send it to Pentaxs dot com and have him do a CLA on it. It will be like brand new after he cleans and adjusts it. The reason I keep mentioning getting work done on it, is that without a good cleaning, lubing and adjusting, you are just wasting film on a process that will most likely give you not repeatable results. You need a camera that is reliable over and over. Don't buy new. buy used. If not here then KEH.

$210? You could get 21 $10 Leicas for that.

Now you’ve piqued my curiosity... How much do they normally cost?

Leica's are expensive. Must be why my wife won't let me even look at them.

You know that the OP wanted a Leica not a Pentax regardless of how good the Pentax is. And of course he wanted to pay only $10 for one. Otherwise there is nothing to talk about.

I am looking for a Leica for several reasons, which I have explained, as a daily carry camera, with changeable lenses, so I can no carry my heavier SLRs, which are be used at home and when on car shoots, where I have access to an area where I am at my car, (i have a handicap tag, so that helps, or within range of a garden cart, with kit.

Carrying a loaded bag more than a few blocks, kills my back, and my ability to breath properly, especially in warm/hot weather, and a lightweight camera, with lightweight lenses in a pocket or smaller bag, will, I hope, allow me a measure of freedom when it comes to street shooting or just day to day, no ore-planned day trips, shooting when I venture out.

I appreciate the tips on alternative kit but I have camera kit, and specific reasons why the Leica Rangefinder best meets my need.

Cheers and Godspeed to all.

My Nikon F with prism finder (without lens) weighs 1.69 lbs and my Leica M3 (without lens) weighs 1.43 lbs. Not much of a difference that would be noticeable when comparing cameras that are of similar vintage and capability.
