That's the result of management and workers who care about the finished product, not what it took to get there. Those cameras were difficult to get immediately post-War (as were Contax), but the ones you could get were perfectly fine.

You can care until the cows come home but if you can't get people or components, it doesn't matter. Look at how things fell apart peak covid and that wasn't close to military conscription and civilian deaths.

Has anyone tried pushing this? I'm getting into the last quarter of a bulk roll of Kentmere 400 and I was thinking of going with HP5 for my next one. $60 sounds a lot better than $110, though! I'd buy a couple of rolls to try if shipping weren't 10 bucks.

Based on testing by others 400 seems to be Foma action 400 sold in bulk, if that is the case in most developers it is a 200 speed film, with a acutance type developer such as DDX, Microphen, FX, DDX it is closer to 400. You should be able to push to 800 or 1600 , with the right developer, but expect grain to be noticeable.

I have. I'd have to check my notes, I'm not sure if I pushed to 1600 but I did to 800. It worked. It retains the same look of Finesse just more of it (unsurprisingly). It doesn't compare to HP5 pushed but it works and I got some lovely results with it. The ones I recall were indoor snapshots at a friends house while playing cards and snapping photos of their new baby. Definitely got some photos that are easily keepable.

That said, I've since largely moved back to HP5, though still have some bulk rolled Finesse 400 to go through. HP5 is not my fav film necessarily but I do really like the look and find I prefer it over Finesse 400.
