Lake District is fine for me, but I'm happy to travel pretty much anywhere in the UK.

Canvas would be an issue for me as my back is currently so far out that it's nearly my front! A pub that does B&B near a campsite would seem to fit most people's needs.

a weekend camping in the Lakes would be fine with me too. Feb would be good for me as I have lots going on until then, although I might be able to squeeze in some time before then.

Does anyone know the area well enough to suggest a good location for camping, B&B and central for the best locations? I've stayed in Keswick before which was great (with castlerigg only 5 mins away, I would be VERY happy:wink:) but I'm sure there must be alternative equally great locations. Any ideas?

Ailsa - please, not Brighton! I have a theory that Brighton has more photographers per square inch than anywhere else on Earth.... Now, Haywards Heath... that WOULD be a challenge!

Surely we're bringing enough flashers of our own...!

I'm with Les on this one, the lakes are superb early in the year. I would be interested in meeting other APUG'ers. Camping or B&B OK for me, Wasdale is great (but remote).

Aye. Sounds good to me

if people in-the-know can give me a few pointers as to prefered locations to stay and shoot, I am happy to contact the tourist board for appropriate camp sites/ B & B info, then I'll post them here for discussion???

my vote would be for Keswick because it's right on Derwen****er and v. near Castlerigg, but my knowledge of the area is limited so if others know of better places to be, fire away.

i didnt realise there was a **** in dewen****er ... - that should read derwent-water!!!

Just a suggestion, depending on how many decide to suport this meeting it may be worth checking out the cost of a self catering house for a long weekend.

good point les, and would definitely be a bit warmer than my tent ... if we say that we will take final numbers by next weekend (sunday eve deadline) to give everyone a chance to read this and opt-in then look at cheapest options etc. after that?

Depends on numbers but it might be worth contacting the YHA. I am a member of a club that hired a Youth Hostal in Cornwall a few years ago for a long weekend. I seem to remember it being quite a reasonable price.

Aren't filters wonderful things? I'd never have noticed that there was such a word in this well known lake, unless the filter had alerted my attention to it!

So what would happen if I was to type in the name of that well-known town in Lincolnshire...?

You've obviously never heard me snore...!

Actually, just being in the same county might be too much for some of you. Maybe I ought to go home for the evening...

we have 9 so far, then our 2 American maybes and possibly Peter Hogan - so thats 12. A good tun out so far.
