Another "maybe" here - it all depends on things outside of my control, but I'd really like to join!

Well, I'm definately in, and I don't care where we go. I've got a motorhome and there are two spare beds......

Judging by the numbers, it's looking like holiday cottages might be out of the question. I'll dust off my tent, sleeping bag and thermals then!

I am staying out of this for the moment as I am on the list for a hip replacement which could happen and render me 'hors de combat' at any time in the future months !!

Can I add my best wishes for an early slot and speedy recovery. It well worth while, they will have you running around like a two year old in no time at all.

Cheryl, please come! I'm not sure I'll be able to cope with all this testosterone on my own.

Ailsa,

How about offering Cheryl an incentive, like a feature article in B&WP...? (Actually, that's not a bad idea in any case!)

All the best,

Frank (now going away and minding his own business! )

My wife will be there also, She's already threatened to run me through the "fixer" if I don't behave.

Ailsa, I'll do my best to be there and bring my estrogen with me! Between the two of us, and with the possible addition of Thomas' wife, I think we'll hold our own quite nicely.

I'm working on the calendar right now, and I think my "hoped for" dates for this trip are February 4 - 18. (ish.) I'm trying to also make Carnival in Venice.

Thanks Dave. I have had one done so I thought I would equalise my balance by having the other side sorted out ! Actually it is not bad yet but will get so eventually no doubt.

Ok - the definitive list is:-

Sparx
Leon
Ailsa (+ Tripod Carrier)
Frank B
Barry Wilkinson
Phill Dresser
Dave Miller (+ Tripod Carrier)
Les Mclean
Snapper
Cheryl Jacobs (Maybe)
Thomas Sauerwein & tripod carrier (Maybe)
Ole (Maybe)
Tom Stanworth
Peter Hogan (and motorhome)
Wise Owl
Ian/127 (and tripod carrier)

that makes 21 of us. If we are going down the self-catering accomodation route, it is probably best to call this a "closed" group now. If we are going for sort-your-own-B&B-or-campsite route, then it can be a bit less formal???

now we need to say which weekend in Feb? fri 25th - sunday 27th suits me best, but I can make the others too.

I'll be going down the B&B route too and can manage pretty much any time.

Thinking about this event, it seems to me that we should be careful that the planned weekend doesn’t end up as two groups doing their own thing i.e. the campers going one way and the lodgers going the other. May I suggest that we should be looking for a Pub / hotel that can cater for those that want B&B, and also cater for the campers attending for the all important Saturday evening meal, and social. Some of you may be thinking of filling this slot by consuming baked beans from a billycan whilst sitting around a camp fire, but my old bones demand that the campfire be inside a pub, and, in any case I find bake bean consumption a little dangerous these days.
One further idea: If we each bring a couple of mounted prints, say A4 or smaller, then these can be passed around during evenings social, as an icebreaker. Otherwise we will have to put up with Leon playing his mandolin; now there’s a good idea. By the way, we intend travelling up on the Friday afternoon, so if anyone else plans to do that as well, then we shall be pleased to meet you over a meal on the Friday evening also. This earlier arrival is necessary to allow the tripod carrier a half-hour shopping slot in Keswick on the Saturday morning, without which she’s liable to sulk.
If the above is acceptable I’m happy to trawl the net and see what sort of accommodation is available and what sort of group prices, and report back.

That is a great idea, I'll bring the guitar as well then shall I?

That all sounds great - I would prefer to rough it in my tent, so please search away if you are happy to.

I will probably be camping and I may have the wife and a small Jack Russell with me so will be needing a dog friendly campsite. Will be wanting to travel Friday so the meal is good idea, as is Saturday night social gathering. Datewise I am easy as nothing is (yet) booked in this far in advance.
